For this month, let's congratulate Dr. Sailila E. Abdula, our executive director; Dr. Norvie L. Manigbas, Hybrid Rice Research program leader and one of our scientists; and Mr. Roger F. Barroga, Information Systems Division head and Future Rice program leader. Dr. Abdula and Dr. Manigbas have been chosen as two of this year’s Presidential Lingkod Bayan Awardees while Mr. Barroga is one of this year’s CSC Pagasa Awardees. Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte conferred the award in a ceremony held at the Malacañang Palace, September 27. Know more about their winning from this link.

For featured research, let’s be curious about our researchers’ explorations on the emergence of mutha, the world’s worst weed, in the lowland rice ecosystem. Dindo King M. Donayre, one of our scientists, is leading this study.

Would you guess what’s the longest partnership we have at PhilRice? Check on how farmers across the country had benefited from our decades-long cooperation project with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
 
After the onslaught of Typhoon Ompong, PhilRice and International Rice Research Institute provided high-quality seeds to the typhoon-stricken rice farmers in San Mateo, Isabela. 

Lastly, let’s take a glimpse of what happened during Lakbay Palay, in which rice and rice-based technologies for wet season were showcased to the farmers; and during the 32nd National Rice Research for Development Conference, in which we launched our new slogan: Quality Rice. Quality Life.
