With our new Bingley Prospectus ‘Going Places’ now available, and a successful stall at the recent Bingley Business Expo, we’re looking forward to continued efforts to make our town a more attractive and welcoming place for visitors, businesses and residents alike.
 
As part of this, the Council is pleased to support Bingley Chamber of Trade’s Christmas Fayre and Lights Switch-On. The date for your diaries this year is Saturday 24^th November.
 
If you’re one of the many people who enjoy Myrtle Park, please think about attending the meeting on 16^th October to discuss setting up a Friends of Myrtle Park group.

Friends of Myrtle Park

A public meeting aiming to set up a Friends of Myrtle Park group will be taking place on Tuesday 16^th October at Tarquin’s Tearooms, starting at 6.30 pm.

The park is a much-loved feature of our town, and is used by many people who go there to walk, play, exercise or watch the world go by. Dwindling resources at district level in recent years has meant that it no longer gets the level of care or the vision it deserves.  Frequent visitors to the park will have noticed a small group of volunteers working hard to add to the floral displays. A Friends of Myrtle Park group would hopefully bring together people to assist with this but also to take a broader view of how the group might improve and enhance the park in a variety of different ways.

The meeting will be attended by Bradford Council Parks Manager, Mel Smith and a representative from Friends of Peel Park in Bradford.

Final 2018 Summer Market on Saturday 6^th October
 
The final Summer Market for 2018, the last of the four pilot events, will take place on Saturday 6^th October, from 9 am to 3 pm. Four different entertainment acts are lined up to complement the expanding number of stalls and traders, potentially making the event the biggest yet.
 
The Town Council will be asking residents to feed back their views on this year’s markets so that it can plan how best to provide a market in Bingley in the future. You can answer a couple of simple questions by filling in a form at the Council’s stall on the day or accessing the form on our website. 

Emergency Planning
 
The Town Council will shortly be undertaking a piece of work to review the town’s Emergency Plan. A temporary Emergency Planning sub-committee devised the plan, in collaboration with Bradford Council, as a response to the December 2015 floods, and it was one of the first tasks the Council successfully undertook.
 
To complement the plan – a written document containing vital information, contact numbers and procedures – a box of equipment for use in emergencies was installed in Bingley Fire Station.
 
As an initial step, the Council’s Finance and General Purposes Committee will review the terms of reference, status and composition of the Emergency Planning sub-committee, with a view to possibly including non-councillor members with relevant expertise and experience.

Green and Clean Forum news

Nick Milsom was the speaker at the Green and Clean Forum on 22^nd September and gave a very interesting presentation about the work of the Aire Rivers Trust. The Trust hopes to run group sessions to work on various projects on and around the river locally, and an immediate plan is to organise a walk along the river for anyone interested in the next couple of months.

The next Green and Clean Forum will be on Saturday 12^th January when the speaker will be Edith Grooby, Recycling Manager at Bradford Council.

Winter and spring planting

A variety of spring bulbs – daffodils, three varieties of crocuses and tulips in six different colours – have now been ordered and were distributed to various planting groups at the recent Green and Clean Forum.

In addition, seasonal bedding plants including wallflowers, pansies, polyanthus, myosotis and bellis are on order from Bradford Council and will be available in early November.

Look out for notices from your local village society or gardening group for upcoming planting sessions!

Remembrance Sunday
 
The Town Council has offered its support to the Bingley branch of the Royal British Legion for its organisation of the Remembrance Sunday event in the town centre on Sunday 11^th November. The Council will coordinate volunteer stewards, liaising with Bradford Council, and will also ensure the Market Square, Jubilee Gardens and Myrtle Park are clean and tidy by organising a litter pick, which will start at 8 am on the day.
 
There will a number of road closures on the day and details of these will be advised in due course.
 
All Saints Church 500 year anniversary celebration – reminder
The Town Council is pleased to be represented at celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the founding of Bingley’s parish church next month. All are welcome to the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert on Saturday 6th October, starting at 7pm. Tickets are £12.50 in advance (01274 565079) or £15.00 on the door. Bishop Nick Baines (Bishop of Leeds) will be taking the 10.30 Service on Sunday 7th October.
