  • 4-Hers from Onondaga County worked many jobs and tasks at NYS Fair 2018! They had the opportunity to work in educational activities and interact with the public at the Youth Building. The youth brought 40 projects to show this year, and we got a couple of Special Recognitions! The youth also participated in the 4-H Chicken Show, 4-H Horse Show, Open Goat Show, and cooking demonstrations at the Produced in NY. That is fantastic! They rock! And we can’t forget to say THANK YOU to the club leaders, volunteers and chaperones! Incredible team work!

Nutrition & Health

Our Regional Eat Smart New York Program is hosting two intensive CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) workshops and Train-the trainer series for Nutrition Educators. 17 After school Program Staff from 4 Partnering Agencies participated in the “Kids Club’ Training on 9/22. Also four of our partners from the Syracuse City School District and Syracuse City Department of Parks and Recreation will be trained along with our CCE Nutrition Educators to train their staff in CATCH Physical Education- reaching almost 20,000 youth enrolled in Syracuse city schools and after school programs. CATCH is an evidenced based healthy eating and physical activity program that engages the whole child in healthy eating and active living.

CATCH is considered the most cost-effective means of preventing childhood obesity, according to independent research and third-party evaluation. Developed at universities over the past 25 years, CATCH is now being used by more than 10,000 sites worldwide to combat obesity and improve child health.
