The Rumblestrutters 21.09.2018
The Rumblestrutters at Penarth Acoustic Club last week

Next event - 26.10.2018 - Digwyddiad Nesaf!

It's been a while since we published a newsletter, mostly because we've had to make sure that we are GDPR compliant - and we are! So, with apologies for the break in publishing, here is some news! And please don't forget that if you don't want to receive this newsletter, or you're reading this over someone's shoulder and you'd like your own copy, then use the links at the bottom of this newletter, or otherwise one quick visit to our website's 'Newsletter' page will sort you out!

it was another excellent night last month, thanks to a storming performance from the Rumblestrutters, and excellent support from poet Gareth Writer-Davies. Sadly the audience numbers were inexplicably low, so the enjoyment was confined to the privileged few who came out - please spread the word to your friends and colleagues so that we can continue to bring these guests in to Penarth from far afield. The snapshot video will be up on the website and Facebook soon, to remind you all how wonderful it was!

Our next session is an unusual one on many counts, but should be an exciting one - so please pay close attention to the following!.

Firstly the gig is on 4th Friday of next month, not our usual 3rd Friday. Secondly we are moving to Glamorganshire Golf Club on Lavernock Road for this gig only! It's a long story, complicated by touring clashes and venue booking clashes, but rather than miss another month, and miss a great touring artist, we persevered and this is what we came up with!

So don't forget - it's Friday 26th October, at Glamorganshire Golf Club, Lavernock Road, Penarth, CF64 5UP. Usual times, 8-11 pm, and there's plenty of parking if you're driving.

An evening with Willy Porter - Friday 26th October 2018
As part of a 15-date tour of the UK over 16 days in October, American guitarist and singer-songwriter Willy Porter is visiting Penarth Acoustic Club on 26th October.

Departing from the usual "acoustic cabaret" format, there will be no support acts for this event, just an evening with one of the best performers on the acoustic music scene.

Willy Porter continues on a musical and personal odyssey spanning over two decades, 11 albums, and multiple continents. His journey has been defined by an inquisitive love for humanity and the language that describes what we all hold to be true. Porter’s songs weave a universal perspective about the questions, struggles, and triumphs of human existence. His live shows are guitar-driven grit, soul, silence and muscle – at times electrifying, dynamic, and unique in the way that Porter’s voice blends and fuses with his fret work.

A largely self-taught musician, Porter began treating audiences to his brand of guitar playing and wry storytelling in the late ‘80’s while living in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1990, he released his first full-length independent album, The Trees Have Soul, and the touring life has flowed steadily ever since. Porter has literally logged millions of miles across America, Canada, the UK, and Europe, touring solo, as well as with various incarnations of the Willy Porter Band and in support of artists like Tori Amos, Paul Simon, Jethro Tull, Sting, and Jeff Beck.

In addition to making a life in music, Porter finds ways to make an impact on local and international levels. He is an active supporter of Advocates of Ozaukee, a shelter and treatment facility for victims of domestic violence and abuse in Mequon, Wisconsin. His annual benefit concerts have raised more than $100,000 for this organization to date. He is also an Ambassador for Guitars for Vets, a Milwaukee-based International organization that works to improve the lives of veterans by providing them with guitars and music lessons.

More info at the Willy Porter website.
