Interbeing Sangha

Weekly Meeting

Please join us for our next weekly gathering, taking place this Sunday, September 30th, for meditation and dharma sharing, 6:30pm at Unitarian Place (Kingston Unitarian Fellowship), 206 Concession Street. Anne Coward will be bell minding.
Sangha Care, Self Care

"We say, “I take refuge in sangha,” but sangha is made of individual practitioners. So you have to take care of yourself. Otherwise you don’t have much to contribute to the community because you do not have enough calm, peace, solidity, and freedom in your heart. That is why in order to build a community, you have to build yourself at the same time. The community is in you and you are in the community. You interpenetrate each other. That is why I emphasize sangha-building. That doesn’t mean that you neglect your own practice. It is by taking good care of your breath, of your body, of your feelings, that you can build a good community, you see."

Interbeing Sangha

Happy Continuation

Two years ago on Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 our sangha met for the first time. Since that evening, we have held the space to practice together nearly every week, hosted Days of Mindfulness and other events, and grown together as a sangha family. Love and deep gratitude to everyone in our community of practice!

Community Announcement

Sharing Abundance

Bell minder Linda Tucker, a founding member of Friends of the North Misiway (a caring partnership with the people in Cree Communities along the western shore of James Bay) invites us once again to donate food bags for needy families in the north. Shipment of your donations will be sent from Kingston during October, November and early December. Linda can provide bags donated by Metro that can be used to fill with the items needed (listed on the flyer). Learn more and download the new flyer here. Please share and donate!
Protection of Sangha

"And what is the sangha? The sangha is a community of people who agree with each other that if we do not practice right mindfulness, we will lose all the beautiful things in our soul and all around us. People in the sangha standing near us, practicing with us, support us so that we are not pulled away from the present moment. Whenever we find ourselves in a difficult situation, two or three friends in the sangha who are there for us, understanding and helping us, will get us through it. Even in our silent practice we help each other. In my tradition they say that when a tiger leaves the mountain and goes to the lowland, it will be caught by humans and killed. When practitioners leave their sangha, they will abandon their practice after a few months. In order to continue our practice of transformation and healing, we need a sangha. With a sangha it’s much easier to practice, and that is why I always take refuge in my sangha."

Our sangha has two teams helping to share leadership and facilitation of our meetings. Our Bell Minders Team are mindful facilitators for our weekly gatherings, as well as retreats, taking beautiful care of our friends in the practice including the bell. Our Sangha Care Team facilitates sangha care meetings, plans retreats, minds our library and resources, and coordinates outreach. If you are interested in helping with either or both, contact interbeingkingston@gmail.com for more information.
