Parent Social Volunteers
The Parent Social was a hit last year and we're looking for volunteers to make it a success again! Anyone interested in helping to plan and/or execute the Parent Social this year can contact JP Casino through email or the Planning Committee Facebook group.
In Search of: Magical Unicorns for the Kiss'N'Ride
The reality is that, with 925 enrolled, there are more students from farther away coming to Duke than ever before. There has been a lot of interest in revitalizing our kiss’n’ride efforts — which were extremely successful, albeit short lived. Successful, because traffic congestion was eliminated, buses were not blocked, and safety of children was beautifully ensured. Short lived, because there were very few people willing to volunteer to escort children from their vehicles to the mother ship. People who offered their time were so few that these individuals were forced to take every single shift, which is one way to burn out a unicorn. The more volunteers we have, the fewer shifts each one has to do — it’s just like math, only with unicorns.
If you are willing offer even a teeny bit of time, not only will you help make the morning drop safer and easier on Woodfield and Kerr, but we will also give you a free cup of coffee at SAC Coffee. Contact us if you're interested in getting this program back up and running.
Musical Notes
Duke Musical Auditions - Sign Up Starts Tomorrow!
Auditions for the new Duke musical start in 2 weeks! This original production, once again written by Duke students, will include music from a variety of singers and bands including Queen! The sign-up sheet will be posted outside Mr. Caruso's classroom (room 203) starting tomorrow. Auditions will be held as follows:
- Wednesday, October 17 - 2 audition times (lunchtime AND after school)
- Friday, October 19 - lunchtime only
- Wednesday, October 24 - lunchtime only
A few things to note:
- Students must prepare 2 things: 1) a song of their choice and 2) a small piece of dialogue from the choices on the Duke music page.
- The audition song must be no longer than 1 minute and MUST be sung a capella/without accompaniment and be memorized. Anything longer than 1 minute will be cut off, therefore your child should start the song at the best part for their voice ... even if it's in the middle. At the audition, they should be prepared to tell the audition panel what song they are singing and who it's by.
- The dialogue piece should be memorized as well and acted.
- The teachers anticipate that this year's auditions will be very popular, so, if an audition is missed, students may not be able to audition at all.
Good luck to all! Should you have any questions, please speak to Mr. Caruso or Ms. Pierce.
