Dear Friends,
What’s the story behind the one-hand wheelie-popping logo that’s on our t-shirts, slim fits, long sleeves, and hoodies that were selling until October 1st? We never see wheelchair users doing THAT in real life.
Well, if you pushed me over backwards you would - because that’s the pose of me getting back up from the floor AFTER I’ve fallen down. My wife Jessica learned how to do this for the first time this past weekend. You can watch the video above to see part of the process.
Learning how to fall bactkwards in a manual wheelchair safely is important for learning wheelies, which in turn enables you to maneuver over all kinds of physical and social obstacles in the wider world, like curbs, stairs, and open dance floors.
For many of the individuals I’ve mentored over the years, it is the fear of falling or of second injury - anything in addition to a broken neck - that prevents them from taking the risk of pursuing greater independence. Once you believe you can fall and not get seriously hurt, your confidence goes through the stratosphere, and your wheelchair really becomes more like an eco-friendly personal monster truck. I mean, I would prefer that ride anywhere.
So that’s the story! Thank you everyone who has supported our bonfire T-shirt campaign so far. We already reached our 30 shirt goal with 33 total. With only 3 days left to go, help us reach our push goal of 40! Every shirt and donation goes towards creating more films on this channel for sharing the path to independence after spinal cord injury. https://www.bonfire.com/more-than-walking-apparel/
