America's British Reliability Run

October 5 - 7

We are ready to run tomorrow! The hotels are booked, entrant packets are ready and the road books are printed. This year, the Pennsylvania-based ABRR is running northward on the winding, twisty roads towards of New York State and Connecticut to LimeRock Park where we will get in a couple of parade laps, then we head west to Watkins Glen to run more parade laps and motor back southeast towards our departure point in northern NJ, Already, our fundraising efforts have set new records this year! The weather forecast is cooperating, we are loading spares in the Ragtops & Roadsters support trailer, checking tyre pressure and filling up with petrol! Did we miss anything? We are proud to be "Driving for Kids" again this year! Look for a full report next month... It is still not too late to help out the kids!  Click here to make a last minute contribution to your favorite ABRR Team!

AACA Fall Hershey

October 10 -13

Stop by and see us on the Chocolate Field at CY 42-45 at Fall Hershey which is the largest antique automobile show and flea market in the United States. We will have our double tent again this year so we have four cars on display from Ragtops & Roadsters and Pollock Auto Restoration. The AACA Eastern Division National Fall Meet at Hershey consists of over 9,000 flea market spaces, over 1,000 car corral spaces, and approximately 1,500 show cars. Each year the show attracts visitors from all over the United States and many countries throughout the world. Some of the most unusual cars and parts can be found at Hershey. If you love antique cars, Hershey is the place to be! Hopefully the weather holds out so plan to come out and stop by our tent on the Chocolate Field at CY 42-45. Look for the Union Jack and the American Flags! Admission is free and don't forget to wear a good pair of walking shoes!

Motorcars Delivered for Fall Driving!

This Aston Martin DB 6 suffered a small dent from an accident inside the owner's garage. Metallic Silver Birch is, as with all metallic colors, very hard to match. Our staff at our sister shop Pollock Auto Restoration did a fantastic job and we dare you to tell us where the damage happened. The owner was very pleased with the results! He was slightly shaken, but not stirred!
This little MGA was bought right by it's current owner, however, it did need some sorting when it came into the shop. We chased the bugs out of the Lucas  wiring, went over the brakes, suspension, adjusted the shims for the steering rack and moved the seat up a bit so our client can reach the pedals! The car is very driveable and ready to head out to see the fall colors, but the gearbox will be due for an upgrade over the winter.
This 1958 Jaguar XK 150 DHC was restored by Reggie Ray about 15 years ago. It came in for some overdue maintenance. We replaced the brake fluid reservoir, rebuilt the front calipers, re-cored the radiator, and had the gearbox rebuilt. Now, this cat purrs down the road and can be sighted in the finger lakes region of New York.

Watkins Glen Festival

by: Dave Hutchison

We transported our client's 1938 SS 100 Jaguar to Watkins Glen for the Grand Prix Festival. We were pleased to see we had the oldest Jaguar on display out of more than one hundred Jaguars on hand to support the SVRA vintage racing weekend. Jaguar was the featured marque for the show and several cats were given Concours awards on Franklin Street. Mini was the featured marque on the track and the Minis and other racers came down from the track to run the old street course.

Since 1993, the Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen, presented by Chemung Canal Trust Company has celebrated our heritage of motor racing. An estimated 25,000 spectators attended. As in previous years, a tribute to the Grand Prix races are featured in a variety of events during this all-day festival. Events include the Walk of Fame award ceremony, an historical lecture called The Legends Speak, a pre-race Tech Inspection at Smalley's Garage, as well as several rolling events and two car shows known as the Stone Bridge Driver Events.

Radnor Concours

by: Dave Hutchison

The Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance was held September 7-9 in Malvern, PA. The invitation-only Concours show always features 100 significant automobiles and this year Rolls-Royce and Bentley were the featured marques. The three days of activities included a barbeque, road rally, black-tie gala, and silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the Thorncroft Equestrian Center. Rain was predicted for Sunday and this time they were right!
The voice of the US Concours, Bill Rothermel stands with the President of the Radnor Concours after a dreary rain-shortened day with Doc Simeone's Allard. We had our client's 1964 Triumph Italia in the vendor tent so for me personally, I stayed pretty dry! Many others did not and many show cars stayed dry in their trailers. Prior to the show our sister shop Pollock Auto Restoration supplied clear rain protector car covers for all entrants, just in case it rained, and as you can see they were used  We are proud to support this show every year and we hope for better weather in 2019!
St. Michaels Concours d'Elegance
Mike Engard

The St Michael’s Concours d’Elegance was held this year on the idyllic grounds of the Inn at Perry Cabin by Belmond which is on the Miles River off the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. This is a gorgeous waterfront location with many shop and restaurants within walking distance. At the Friday Night Welcome Party I had the opportunity to meet with several clients and discuss their past, present and future projects with them. Also many of the friends that we meet regularly around the concours circuit.

On Saturday most of the show participants drove the back roads around Eastern Bay and visited Wheatland, a beautiful Historic Waterfront Plantation which offered some great photo opportunities as the cars lined up in front of the grand house. After the tour we all returned to the Inn at Perry Cabin for lunch and then went on a three-hour tour, a three-hour tour aboard the good ship Patriot around the bay and the rivers that feed into it.
I was mightily impressed by the number of car owners who decided, despite the rainy weather on Sunday, to bring their vintage Rolls-Royces, Packards, Deusenbergs, and other great cars out on the front drive to the Inn at Perry Cabin. The judging team, led by Dave Olimpi, did a spectacular job sometimes lifting car covers to view the beauties underneath. The award ceremony was conducted by the ever-charming Bill Rothermel who announced the Best of Show, a 1929 Deusenberg Model J to the crowd.

The Triumph Italia 2000 we showed on behalf of Bob and Sandy Owens was awarded the "Most Elegant Closed Car" award (in honor of Gale and Henry Petronis) as well as the First Place Award from the team of Hagerty Youth Judges. A splendid time was had by all.
