Staff Book Review

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Starr Carter lives a complicated life for a sixteen year-old. She walks a thin line between her hometown of Garden Heights where small business is choked out by gangs and drug deals and her private school, where she is one of two black students trying to fit in. Sneaking out of her house to crash a local party she finds herself the lead witness to a fatal event that night: her childhood friend Khalil is shot by a patrol officer. National debate on racial profiling and police brutality flare. Starr now has to decide if she will give voice to Khalil’s real legacy or if she will allow the public to make their own assumptions.

Staff Tech Tip

Check Out Our Infrared Laser Thermometer

Winter is here-is your house warm enough? If your heating bill seems to get more expensive as time goes by the culprit could be an insulation leak that requires maintenance. Purchasing a state of the art infrared camera could leave you without money to buy Christmas presents this year-so stop by the library and borrow ours! Read over the accompanying brochure and you will get instructions on how to find drafts and leaks in your home to save energy and money. See a staff member at the front desk to check it out for up to two weeks.
