Opening This Weekend: Nunsense
The Town & Gown Players kick off their 2018/2019 season with the Off-Broadway musical favorite, Nunsense, by Dan Goggin.

Tragedy has struck the Little Sisters of Hoboken. Their trusty cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has served a tainted vichyssoise and now many of their order have gone to meet their maker. Most of the burials are complete, but the Little Sisters lack the funds to inter the last four of the departed. What will they do? What anyone in this position would – put on a show!

Mother Superior Mary Regina (Andrea Barra) and her fellow sisters take over the Mount Saint Helen's School auditorium to raise the necessary amount.  Ballet-loving Sister Mary Leo (Abbey Hulsey), street-wise Sister Robert Anne (Vivian Vaeth), befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia (Jordan Richey), and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert (Megan Powell) offer up a rousing evening of song, dance, and inappropriate ventriloquism sure to entertain their guests and get those unfortunate, remaining nuns out of the freezer.

Town & Gown’s production is directed by Mary Herman, who has worked extensively with the Players as a performer, technician, and Assistant Director. Musical direction is by Sam Hopkins, who will be familiar to audiences from his onstage work in other Town & Gown musicals such as Assassins1776, and Curtains.

Beginning as an idea for a line of humorous greeting cards, Nunsense opened Off-Broadway in 1985 and ran for more than 3600 performances. Since then, it had blossomed into a theatrical empire, spawning six sequels, three spin-offs, and a television adaptation starring Rue McClanahan.

Tickets for Nunsense are $20 ($15 for students and seniors), and can be purchased by calling 208-TOWN (208-8696) or going online . The show opens at 8:00 p.m. October 5, at the Athens Community Theater located behind the Taylor-Grady House on Prince Avenue. A reception follows the opening performance. Additional performances of Nunsense will be at 8:00 p.m. October 6 and 11-13, 2:00 p.m. October 7 and 14, 2018. Thursday night’s performance offers a special student/senior  ticket for $12.
UPCOMING SECOND STAGE SHOWS

Second Stage shows often feature new or local playwrights and properties, and are performed in the same space as our Mainstage series.  Second Stage Series productions operate on a small budget and have only one or two weeks in the theater.
2018 Town & Gown Membership Meeting will be held Sunday, October 28th at 6:30. More details to follow.
For more information, contact membership@townandgownplayers.org.

BOX OFFICE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!
T&G needs box office volunteers for our upcoming productions. Receive a complimentary ticket to see the show that night or any other performance for free by selling tickets, running will call & concessions, or ushering.

If you have any questions, contact Front of House Coordinators Anna Reynolds and Eddie Nadeau attownandgownvolunteers@gmail.com.
SET VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
What gets seen on stage even MORE than the actors?  That’s right!  The SET! At Town & Gown, this all important theatrical element is 100% built by volunteers.  All cast members agree to participate in set calls but everyone is welcome to be a part of the fun.

Every Saturday, when there is not a show scheduled, work begins at 10:00 AM and ends sometime in the afternoon (depending on the show).  Stay as long as you can.

Don’t think you have to be a master carpenter to participate.  All skill levels are useful, and you might even learn a thing or two!  Each show has a crew member who “choreographs” the work, “directs” your performance, and leads the applause at the end of the day!

The success of any production only occurs through us working together.  Please come play with us at set calls.

For further information contact Jonathan Sparks, Facilities Chair facilities@townandgownplayers.org.
