From the DCAdults trying to prove that they can still do it. As DC I must say the day after this and other activities at Gilwell on a lovely sunny weekend proved not as fit as I thought, My thanks to the team that put it all together and it was my chance to meet several people I had not seen for 25 years and lots of new wonderful leaders who are doing a great job in Enfield District. Thank you all. The next is a plea to invite anyone who would like to become the next District Commissioner of Enfield to contact me (dc@enfieldscouts.org) or the District chair, Jo, (chair@enfieldscouts.org) and this will be forward to the search team being put in place by the new County Commissioner. It is your District and you have some great people. Further information and contact details will be circulated shortly. Since my landing in Enfield I am enjoying the beautiful scenes of A406 and A10 on a nightly basis and hope to meet most of your groups by end of October. Thank you for your support and time to scouting. Charlie |

Explorer NewsOn the weekend of the 21st to 23rd September the Gilwell trophy took part, this event was for Explorer groups and has been running for over 70 years. Mike Thurston and the team were very proud of all the Explorers that took part, the weekends weather condition was very testing. Well done to the Parker Bowles team for winning and bringing back the Trophy. |

Scout NewsThe District Scout Fishing competition was held on Saturday 29th September at Gilwell Park, 25 scouts took part in this event which is the most we have had enter. Scouts took their places around the lake with their rod, maggots, and chairs and the competition began at 9.30am. Congratulations to Mia from the 14th for winning the Biggest Fish weighing in at a whopping 14lb 4oz, Mia also won the biggest net Trophy and Keeley from the 10th Edmonton won the biggest net runner up, well done girls. I would like to thank the Potters Bar Angling Centre for sponsoring us with bait and other fishing equipment which enabled some scouts to fish for the first time. With a stock of equipment for the district I am hoping that we can encourage more scouts to take part next year. A big thank you to Ali Fletcher for organising the competition along with other leaders for supporting us at this event. Jackie |

Jack Petchey AwardsThe 2018 Autumn round is now open so we will now accept applications. Please complete a J17 form for each applicant and return the form to Sally Symons at petchey@enfieldscouts.org. Do not send it to the County Coordinator, or direct to Petchey as it will not be processed, but rejected. Note the form has been revised, so use only this one. The awards are going to vanish quickly - so do not delay. You must declare exactly what the grant (£250) will be spent on, item by item with costings - just saying "Equipment" or "camp" is not enough and will result in the application being rejected. It cannot be used for the benefit of one individual - but must go towards a group/sectional event or activity (involving the successful candidate of course) - it can only be used for an event for the 11-25 age range. The funds must be spent within three months of being awarded - so before 31/12/2018. Recipients should also demonstrate significant achievement and be in the 11-25 age range (and must not have received a JP award through Scouting before). You cannot have more than two grants going to the same activity. You are reminded that the requirement is that the funds are spent within three months (we expect all grants will be paid by mid-October so they must be used by 31/12/18), so be careful what you apply for. There is every likelihood that Petchey will wish to see evidence of expenditure against the grant - so ensure you retain that proof. Awards will go on a first come, first served basis - and may even get allocated to other Scout Districts if not claimed. This is an easy opportunity to pick up financial support, so please do put applications forward. Once we have approved an application, you will be sent the certificate - funds should be in your nominated account within a week, so once money is received you can present the certificate. Please visit www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk/?looking-for-funding/achievement-awards.html for details. |

Rammey IslandLast weekend Roger Gleave opened up the Rammey Island site for viewing. An awful lot of work has been done by Roger and his team to bring this site up to a very nice standard. The accomodation consists of a hall and kitchen with an attached building containing an 18 bunkbed dormitry and two leaders rooms with two beds in each. Showers and toilets are all finished to a very nice standard. This site would be ideal for weekends and sleepovers with the 'White Water Centre', 'Young Mariners Base', 'Gunpowder Mills' and Waltham Abbey not far away. For further information, availability and to book contact Roger at rammeyisland@enfieldscouts.org. More photos are available on the District website www.enfieldscouts.org. Navigate to the 'HQ's and Campsite' page. |
