Hey, <<First Name>>!

How do you deal with feelings of intimidation?

I was recently at an event with a woman who I consider a total powerhouse. I adore the work that she's doing to create community and help people get out of their heads and into their bodies.

Yet at the same time, it's hard for me to feel confident around her. She represents the things that I struggle with the most: owning my femininity and sexuality, loving my body, and confidently stepping into my leadership.

I didn't want to tell her that I feel this way.

In the past, I would have kept these feelings to myself. Yet I now know that the women who are the most intimidating to me also hold the biggest lessons for my life. (Shoutout to Mama Gena!)

So I took a deep breath, called her, and said that it's hard for me to feel like a leader around her–– that I felt smaller than usual.

To be honest, I was waiting for her to sigh and say that we probably shouldn't work together in the future. But instead, she told me about a similar experience that she had with a mentor.

"It turns out, she wasn't trying to outshine me," she said. "She was waiting for me to put on my big girl pants and step into the spotlight."

This week especially, women need to lift each other up. Because let's be honest, <<First Name>>. There's enough room on this stage for all of us.

Anywho, time for what you're really here for. Take it away, mantra of the week:

Okay okay okay, three more things. Real quick!

1) Have you heard of Croissant?*: This company was founded by friends who were tired of riding the coffee shop struggle bus. You know. You buy a coffee, feel like you need to buy a croissant after 2 hours, and then another, and then you kinda feel like you're gonna explode from over-sugaring and over-caffeinating? Blerg. You just wanted to get some work done!

With this handy app, you can drop into 60+ coworking spaces around the city. It's all the perks of being an exclusive member, without the hassle of a commitment! Very NYC. Try Croissant for a week free here.

**Want your company to sponsor The Joy List or The Joy List Social? Respond to this email and I'll send you more info!

2) Know anyone in Baltimore? Tell them about Celebrate You, Sinclair Ceasar's Self-Care conference! I'll be there on Saturday speaking about making friends as an adult, and facilitating some group conversations.

Free. 1:30 to 3 PM. House of Yes, 2 Wyckoff Ave. Info here.

NYC Sisters Swamp Together

You've probably heard me talk about swamping. It's the practice of women getting together to dance out their emotions. We scream. We hit things. We cry. And we do it together.
