Greetings Fellow Public School Champions:

Please join us in welcoming Diane Ravitch, Jitu Brown and Sue Legg to Central High School Auditorium in Louisville for a Rally to Save Our Schools!

Diane Ravitch is the former assistant secretary of education under Lamar Alexander (1991-1993) and was a staunch proponent of today’s most popular ideas for restructuring schools, including privatization, standardized testing, punitive accountability, and the feckless multiplication of charter schools. In a stunning about-face in 2010, she published The Death and Life of the Great American School System - How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education, followed by Reign of Error - The Hoax of the Privatization
Movement and the Danger to America’s Public Schools
in 2011. In 2013, she co-founded Network for Public Education, which fights to save our public schools from privatization and corporate reform.

Jitu Brown is a Chicago native and community organizer who serves as national director of the Journey for Justice, an alliance of grassroots groups fighting against privatization and for sustainable community schools in 30 cities. Brown has been an education activist for the past 26 years. In 2015, he led a successful 34-day hunger strike to prevent the closing of Dyett High School in Chicago’s south side.

Sue Legg is a retired assessment and evaluation expert who worked for three decades at the Florida Department of Education; she is past president of the Alachua County (Florida) League of Women Voters. Florida has over 600 charter schools and Sue has been instrumental in holding them accountable and occasionally taking them to court. The Florida League was recently successful in its suit to remove Amendment 8, which was part of a larger strategy to build support for privatizing our public schools, from the November ballot.

From 3:30 to 5:30 we will have exhibitors, food trucks, an open mic and entertainment. Central High School Marching Band, Twirlettes and Stingettes will be performing. Hannah Drake will emcee. Speakers are welcome. The events will then move to the auditorium at 5:30 PM where Dr. Marty Pollio and a few of our co-sponsors will offer the Welcoming Remarks prior to the national speakers taking the stage. There will be a Q&A with the national speakers at the end of the program.

Reserved tickets are available online HERE for a modest donation. However, we don’t want cost to keep anyone from attending, so if someone you know is in need of FREE reserved seats, have them send an email to rally@saveourschoolsky.org with their name and number of tickets requested.* General admission will also be accepted at the door the day of the event until all seats are filled. (Doors open at 4:45 PM)

Special thanks to our co-sponsors and volunteers who are making this incredible event possible!

About Dear JCPS

Dear JCPS has been holding district and state leaders accountable since 2015. We were instrumental in affecting the makeup of the current democratically elected school board. We rallied for the resignation of our ineffective and tone-deaf superintendent. Please support our efforts as we continue to fight outsiders who wish to undermine our public schools while simultaneously demanding educational justice in Jefferson County!
Dear JCPS is 100% volunteer funded. Won't you help us offset some of
our out-of-pocket expenses by making a donation today? Due to the advocacy work of our organization, donations are NOT tax-deductible.
