BONUS PRESIDENT'S QUOTE: "I saw this woman out of my window with her legs in the air. I do not know what she was doing. "
Hello dearest Wayfarers,

Welcome to the first Wayfarers Weekly of the year both Wayfarers new and old. As a new term dawns we have a lot of exciting events coming up that are sure to satisfy everyone. We have a social this week followed by a walk this weekend so hopefully we will see lots of you then! We also had the taster social yesterday which was lots of fun and it was great to see everyone who came along.
Malvern Hills
6th October

NOTE: For this trip and all future trips and socials you must be a member of the Wayfarers!

This is our first 'official' walk of the term so we thought we would head on over to the Malvern Hills for a lovely day walk. The Malverns are a striking range of hills not far from the university and they are a firm favorite of the Wayfarers. We will be starting at Colwall station and then we will walk the ridge of the Malverns with the aim of getting to the Worcestershire Beacon. Then in true Wayfarers style we will somehow find ourselves in a pub before heading back to uni.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for this trip you can either go to our in-person sign-up session or you can sign up online through this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/malvern-hills-tickets-50737273551

In person sign-up: 04/10- 12:30-13:30 in the Harvey Milk room in the Guild.

What do I need to bring?
  • Sturdy, comfortable walking shoes (that you don't mind getting muddy)
  • Lightweight trousers (definitely not jeans!)
  • Jumper and/or other layers
  • Waterproof coat and trousers
  • Packed lunch and water
  • Cash for emergencies
  • A rucksack to carry it all in
Cocktail and Movie Night
(04/10)

Fancy having a relaxed night in after your first hard week of lectures? Then come along to the first real social of the term! (Members only).

Join us at 26 Poole Crescent B17 0PB at 7:30 for a booze fuddle and movie night! Bring along yourself and the ingredients for one cocktail or mocktail (and a glass!) to share with your fellow wayfarers! After cocktails we will watch a film, (look on facebook for a poll of the options!).

Please message Sophia Anthony (Or the wayfarers page) on Facebook to let us know you’re going to be there!
Ghetto Golf
(11/10)

Love Mini Golf? Love cocktails? Then the Ghetto Golf social is the one for you!

On Thursday the 11th of October we will be meeting outside the University Train station to travel as a group to Ghetto Golf for a night of mini golf and cocktails! Please arrive at 6:30 at the latest with a ticket to Newstreet Station already purchased.

Ghetto Golf is an 18-hole mini golf centre crossed with a cocktail bar (so please, not tracksuits!) with an aim of celebrating artists with its crazy graffitied interior!
(Please be aware this is a members only social)

Please follow the link below to see details on how to pay the £10 for the social and how to sign up. There are only 20 places available so it is a first-come-first-served and if you want to come then please pay and tell us by the 9th of October.

Clent Hills Trip Report

Almost 70 excited people came to the Clent Hills to taste a bit of Wayfaring. The weather was amazing. A sunny bright blue sky was present above the walking bodies of the Wayfarers. They went up the hill quite fast, making the view at the top literally breath-taking. Then it was time for a well-deserved lunch by the little cafe, to go to the real top afterwards. Whilst most people were enjoying the view, something very special happened. A proper marriage proposal on top of the Clent hills! Perhaps the first one in Wayfarers history, we should dig into our archives. Then there was also time for a group picture, with the fantastic new orange Wayfarers flag. How fabulous!
A lovely proposal. Congratulations from all of the Wayfarers.
A lovely group photo with our new Wayfarers flag!
If you have any interesting hiking experiences or some nice pictures, please feel free to send them to us. Then the happiness can be shared in the weekly!
Sign ups
To come to a walk, you need to sign up. Sometimes this can be done online, but often (especially when payments are needed) you need to come to one of our sign up sessions in the Guild of Students, as listed in the right-hand column of the Weekly. If you can't come to a signup, you can send someone else. Every person can sign up for one place.
If the limited places on the trip are taken, you can be put on the reserve list. If someone drops out, the people on the reserve list are contacted in order of signing up. Unless it's a last-minute drop out, then everybody will be contacted at the same time and the first person who replies gets the place.
If you drop out, you will only get refunded if your place can be taken by a reserve candidate.

Membership
For all our walks you will need to become a member of the Wayfarers. We are one of the cheapest sports societies with membership for the year being only 7 pounds, which gives you access to all of our trips and social events throughout the year!

You can become a member of the Wayfarers through our website, the link to our website can be found at the bottom of this email. Click on the 'Become a member' button, follow the instructions and hey presto you're a Wayfarer!
Lots of love!
