Recommended Reading

Over the last while I have been contacted by different people that are looking for training or behaviour advice.  The internet is full of different options and but I would like to direct you in the correct direction.

These are some great resources that I use and recommend.  They are helpful whether they are for yourself or for a gift (the winter holidays are soon approaching)!  Patricia McConnell (with Karen London) has written several booklets that present the information in an easy and to-the-point manner. Some people will read it cover-to-cover or other will use parts to reference.

Here are some of my favorites:
Play Together, Stay Together: this book mentions games and how to play with your dog, some tricks, different classes to consider and different types of toys
I’ll Be Home Soon: this booklet discusses separation anxiety, what it is and what causes it.  As well as how you begin to treat the anxiety.
Feisty Fido: this booklet describes on how to work with your leash reactive dog.  It explains  a few exercises could make a big difference in helping your dog.  As well as prevention and alternatives to working with your dog.
The Cautious Canine: will provide you will steps on how to deal with your dogs fears by pairing them with play and creating positive associations.
Love Has No Age Limit: this book prepares you for bringing a new older dog/puppy into the home. I recommend giving this book a read as it gives you explanations to help you understand your dog and the behaviour issues that may come.
Lost in Translation: this is a DVD seminar series that will help you to learn how dogs use scent, sound and vision to communicate with their best friends, whether human or canine.

Basically this author has something for everyone you can order from Amazon, DogWise, or Dr. McConnell's website.  There are also e-books available

If you are considering ordering a dog training book or dvd be sure to check the author's qualifications and if you are not sure you can always ask me for my thoughts.
This Month's Feature:
Online Registration Update

You may notice some changes to our online registration process. We hope that you will find it much easier to process your registration and online payments!

The new system does require that you log in with your email address, however once this is done you no longer have to fill out your information every time you sign up for a class! If you have any questions please let us know and we will be happy to help. As always, you can still call Anne-Marie to sign up over the phone.
