Africa Oyé celebrate Liverpool's new Nelson Mandela Memorial with BCUC

To celebrate the building of a new memorial to Nelson Mandela in Liverpool's Princes Park, Africa Oyé will bring South African stars BCUC to the city for a special one-off performance this October.

The show is co-presented by the memorial campaign group, Mandela8, which was established in 2013, after Nelson Mandela’s passing, to establish a permanent memorial and educational programme as a fitting legacy. The memorial will be installed in Princes Park and officially opened in 2019 by Nelson Mandela’s eldest Daughter Dr Makaziwe “Maki” Mandela.

The Monster Halloween Ball!

The beautiful Palm House in Liverpool's Sefton Park will  play host to some fiendish family fun this Halloween as The Lantern Company prepare to host three days of workshops, mini parades, dance-offs and more!

Taking place across October half-term, the events will be split into both day and night time fun.

By day, little beasties of all ages are invited to come and have fun making a fabulous monster mask or create their own Lantern to join the mini Halloween Parade!


Then at dusk, prepare for the Mini Monsters Party! Dressed in the best Halloween finery, young revelers can join the mini Halloween Parade around the grounds of the Palm House, before getting reading ready for the evening party.

Our friends at Liverpool's Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust would like to invite you back for their most special event, the Henry Yates Thompson Fundraising Dinner.

The Henry Yates Thompson dinner is named after the man whose generosity allowed the Palm House to become a reality. In 1896, the Liverpool publishing entrepreneur gifted £10,000 to construct the ‘great conservatory’ of Sefton Park for the benefit of the people of Liverpool. The Palm House with its exotic plants and statues, became the centrepiece of Sefton Park and is now a grade II* listed building.

Eclectic Full Line-Up Revealed For Liverpool Mental Health Festival

Liverpool Mental Health Festival will return to the city from 10th - 14th October and organisers, Liverpool Mental Health Consortium, have lined up a whole host of new and exciting events.

Reflecting the Consortium’s partnership approach across mental health, the arts and other Merseyside events, the 2018 festival focuses on connecting communities, the arts, and mental wellbeing, whilst showcasing artists from Liverpool and beyond.

Highlights include 'Articipation' - A Wellbeing Forum for the Arts & Creative Industries, featuring a live performance from Stealing Sheep.

Liverpool Irish Festival 2018

Liverpool’s cultural ties with Ireland come to the fore once again as the Liverpool Irish Festival returns, this year with special performances by The Guilty Feminist (in a dedicated festival podcast) and Kíla. LIF also celebrate a new partnership with Liverpool Literary Festival, the return of the Celtic Animation Film Festival and IndieCork and a new play by Lizzie Nunnery.

Taking place 18-28 Oct 2018 in venues across Liverpool, including Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, FACT, Liverpool Philharmonic, St George’s Hall, the Florrie and the Victoria and Gallery Museum, the programme, curated by Festival Director Emma Smith and partners, explores the theme of ‘migration’.

Capstone Theatre Opens Autumn Season With Drama, Performance Art And Storytelling

Liverpool Hope University's Capstone Theatre begins its Autumn 2018 season with a whole host of exciting and though-provoking performances this October.

Kicking things off on 9th October, Smashing Mirrors theatre company presents 3 Emos, a tale about three girls, Ruth, Nat and Liv, who spend their days working dead-end jobs in Hull, and nights playing open mic nights. When Nat's Gran is diagnosed with Dementia it causes them to take a new direction. Generations clash and come together in this tale of finding inspiration in the most unlikely of places.

Annual Liverpool Improvathon returns for over 30 hours of live comedy soap opera

The annual Liverpool Improvathon returns this October with a live soap opera featuring over 33-and-a-half hours of non-stop improvisation across 17 episodes.

Taking place at The Hope Street Theatre, the Improvathon is based on a format created and made popular by Canadian company Die-Nasty, who have held an annual 50-hour “Soap-a-thon” for over 20 years.

Audiences are free to join the story at any point and to stay for as little or as long as they wish. Each episode begins with the “story so far” so newcomers can catch up on the madness so far!

A spectacular walkabout fairy-tale across Merseyside's parks and gardens

Willo the Wisp and the Fire Sprite from Mate Productions is an enchanting fairytale walkabout adventure touring 5 parks and gardens across Merseyside between 20th October - 4th November.

The production will use spectacle and immersive storytelling to engage adults and children of all ages. Choose a daylight or twilight show to go on a quest led by the Story Wizard to find the Wisp and save the Fire Sprite Princess Ember.

Along the way audiences will meet a whole host of fairytale characters - trees elves, fire sprites, white witches, gnomes, wisps and trolls; in beautiful locations around the parks.

'209 Women' - Crowdfunder Launched

To mark 100 years since some women achieved the right to vote, an all-female photography initiative is crowdfunding for a project in which new portraits will be created of all 209 women MPs. The photographs will be shot exclusively by women photographers, and the aim is for these to be displayed in a free public exhibition in Parliament.

‘209 Women’ is a national artist-led project to champion the visibility of women in environments that are still largely male-dominated, such as politics and the arts. This project supports 209 women photographers across the UK to make portraits of all 209 women MPs. The exhibition is curated by Hilary Wood (Founder/Director of ‘209 Women’ and photographer), Tracy Marshall (Director of Development and Partnerships at Open Eye Gallery and Co- Director of Northern Narratives arts initiative) and Cheryl Newman (Artist, curator and former Director of Photography of the Telegraph magazine).
