A Word from the Director

When I reflect back on this past year, it is inspiring to know what each of the TIPTOP countries has accomplished to date from the development of learning materials, building capacity of health providers, strengthening routine monitoring systems, engendering partnerships between national reproductive health and national malaria control programs and ensuring availability of quality assured sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine at community level. These efforts were complemented by important qualitative and quantitative research studies. All of this is paving the way to build a strong foundation for the demonstration of community intermittent preventive treatment (C-IPTp) across all four countries and generate the evidence for the World Health Organization to review its global policy on IPTp. Three of the four TIPTOP countries (Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Nigeria) have begun implementation of C-IPTp and the final country (Mozambique) will start implementation soon.
The TIPTOP partnership including Unitaid came together in Abuja, Nigeria in September to reflect on project successes and to consider opportunities to strengthen implementation for the future. The collective sharing among country and global level stakeholders has helped to position TIPTOP for the third year of the project and reinforced the importance of continued partnership with Ministries of Health as well as community service organizations as we move forward to achieve our project aims.
