Downtown events, Halloween frights, fall colors ... it's a festive season!

Downtown work ending

Sandpoint celebrates with two October events!

Whew, this past summer was certainly a dusty one in downtown Sandpoint with street remodels, utility work, and new landscaping in full swing. That pic above shows how downtown will be looking once all the work is accomplished - pretty fine! - but two events start the celebrating this month. The Fall for Sandpoint shopping event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, features special sales, in-store games and prizes, kids' activities, and more. Plus, a portion of the day's proceeds benefits local nonprofits. Next up, the Dust Off Downtown party Thursday, Oct. 25, features live music, kids' activities, and a shopping happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sandpoint Shopping District Facebook page.

Fall in full color

Slow down and enjoy the sights

Northern Idaho is breathtaking in October, when tamaracks and aspens transform the forests and mountains into a stunning showpiece of color. Enjoy the sights via car along the Pend Oreille Scenic Byway which meanders eastward to the Montana state line along Lake Pend Oreille. Another option is to make the drive up to Schweitzer Mountain Resort and take in the expansive vistas along the road and up at the resort itself. And finally, get out for a walk along Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail - you'll be happy you did!

Frights and delights

Halloween festivities in abundance

Sandpoint goes all out for Halloween, with fabulous parties and nearby Scarywood drumming up big thrills!
- Scarywood Haunted Nights at Silverwood Theme Park (pictured above) is the place to get your spook on with five haunted attractions, seven scare zones, and most of Silverwood's signature rides in the dark. Open weekends in October.
- Day of the Dead Party Oct. 27 at the Granary in Sandpoint, hosted by Evans Brothers Coffee and Matchwood Brewing Co.
- Halloween Party Oct. 31 at the 219 Lounge in downtown Sandpoint.
- Hive Halloween Bash Nov. 2 at The Hive, with the Polyrhythmics.
