Staff Changes

We are having a few small staff changes this month. Melissa is unable to work 7:30am shifts due to changes in child care times. She will continue to work on Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings 8:30am-12:30pm. We welcome Katrina Andrews back to the studio on Tuesday mornings. Calli will help out early on Thursday mornings, and we are excited that Calli will run a new Thursday morning class.

Christine Durnall has returned to full time work, after her maternity leave. She will still assist with Pilates studio covers on Saturday mornings at times. Monica Owen joins us on Saturday mornings. Monica is a very experienced instructor, who has worked in Sydney studios over many years. She has more of a classical Pilates approach, but has experience with rehab work too.

Physiotherapist, Jenny Fergusson, will be joining Susie and Michelle in the studio on Tuesday nights. Jenny and Susie can see clients for physiotherapy on Tuesday afternoons.Watch out for our new physio who will teach in the studio on Friday mornings and offer more physio sessions at other times.
Never a dull moment!

Tendon-‘opathy’ not ‘itis’

Over the last few years there have been advances in research and treatment programs for tendon dysfunction.Once we called the lump in the Achilles tendon that caused limping when a person first got up in the morning ('start up pain' ), Achilles 'tendonitis'.
Arthri'tis' / burs' itis'/ peritendonitis infers inflammation is present in or around the body.
It has been found that there are not inflammatory changes in the painful lumpy tendon. It is rather  progressive degenerative changes in the tendon that cause the problem. This is termed tendon'osis'.

The current treatment for mid tendon changes is to load the tendon progressively. This helps build new tendon around the degenerative segment and 'shock' the tendon into recovery. Stretching is NOT recommended, as the tendon loses elasticity and the ability to sudden ' bouncy' load, such as running or jumping.
Pain at the bone/ tendon junction (insertion tendonopathy) needs special care.
The physiotherapists at Evolution Pilates have been investigating the research into tendon injury management and we are integrating these exercises  into our client's Pilates programs... with very good effect!

Don't Forget to get your Samaritan Purse Shoe Box!
We still have a few boxes left, they will be collected Saturday 20/10.
