Greetings from the OCC President

Welcome Lincoln Families!

As we all acclimate back into the school year, the welcomed rain helps us get back in the mindset for all the wonders to unfold.

The new school year is an opportunity for us to foster life long learners. With our community of teachers, school administration, parents, and many volunteers, we hold this foundation. With so much happening in the world and our own community, all of us together each year volunteer and work at taking steps to make alternative learning and social justice a choice, an Option, while solidifying Lincoln Elementary as a cornerstone of Olympia and a foundation for our kids.

The Options Community Council (OCC) provides guidance, sustainability, and continued support for our children's learning, engagement, and development. Everyone on the OCC comes with a lot of passion and care. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities for all of you to engage and make the school run with ease, while making it a fun learning environment for our kids. If you have not signed up for a volunteer opportunity and you are interested please reach out to me. I will help you get connected with a committee of your interest.

Thank you,
Thomas Serra

Big Thanks to the Summer Saviors

This has been, possibly, the busiest and shortest summer ever and I am hoping everyone is getting to squeeze the last of summer's goodness out as I write.

The garden looks amazing and it is all thanks to our Summer Saviors - families that gave their time to weed, water, harvest, notice, and enjoy the garden throughout summer.

Big thanks to Paul and Parker for dealing with sudden issues of water and wasps, and to Parker again for spending lots of time tending and excellent communication.  Big thanks as well to Kaela Harmon, Joice Hagen, Caitlin Coleman-Hubert, Shannon Lambson, Mandy Winegarner, Sarah Wiley, Katherine Lange-Withey, Sarah Clifthorne, Hilary Seidel, Alicia Seegers, Erin Whitesel-Jones, Celeste Trimble, Cecilia Hernandez, Vanessa Palensky, Tish Conway-Cranos, Molly Levitt, Marlene Bellman, Josh Alefteras, Shawn Moriarty, Leslie Huff, Elizabeth Kingsbury, Liona Tannesen-Burnham, Lillie McCatty and their wonderful families for all of their hard work.  When I ran into you all over the summer or at the class potlucks I probably didn't switch gears to property express my thanks, but please know how valued your help is.

With so much gratitude,
Jeanne

p.s. - if you didn't already see it, there are some great photos of students hard at work in the garden this fall on the Olympia School District's Facebook page

Special Education Parent Teacher Organization

Did you know that Olympia School District has a Special Education Parent Teacher Organization (SPED PTO)?  If you have a student with an IEP, you are welcome to attend any or all of the meetings. There is no membership in this organization.

The first two meetings of this school year will be October 17th (topic: "Meet Our Administrators") and November 14th (TBD). Meetings are usually on the third Wednesday of the month from 6-7:30pm at the Knox Building - 1113 Legion Way SE room 301. There is free childcare provided just down the hall by a certified teacher!  To rsvp for childcare, call Erika Krupp at 360-705-6497.  Please join us!

Financially Supporting Lincoln Options

Dear Lincoln Families - Did you know that Lincoln’s unique program costs $65,000 more per year more than the funding we receive from the district? That amounts to an average of $215 per student. To make up that difference, our school has a 501(c)3 non-profit arm, through which the Fundraising Committee of the Options Community Council seeks family and community support for our enhanced offerings.

To reach our goal, our Fundraising Committee (made up of family volunteers, just like you!) plans several special events designed to bring our community together in different ways. We invite you to support Lincoln by contributing to, volunteering for, and/or participating in the:
We also ask that all families consider making a contribution to our annual Program Fund at a level that is meaningful and doable for you. A one-time or ongoing monthly donation supports our amazing school by providing sustainable funding to the for:
  • Classroom supplies
  • Field Trips
  • Staff Professional Development
  • Library books
  • Our unique science curriculum, including the garden & wetland
  • Samba
  • Harvest Fest
  • Spanish Program
  • Music Program
  • Art Program
  • Early Release enrichment activities
  • Camp Elderberry
  • 5th Grade Graduation
  • And many of the other things that make Lincoln Options special!

Contributions to the program fund allow us to focus our events on building community first and raising money second. You can donate several ways:

  • Online (if you'd like to do ongoing monthly installments, just click the box that says "Show my support by making this a recurring donation.")
  • Via check payable to Lincoln Options using form available in the office
  • Through the Combined Fund Drive: Options CC 315737

Thank you in advance for your generosity!
