Removal of Equipment
The Shire of Katanning received funding from the State Government Royalties for Regions - Growing Our South and from Lotterywest to undertake the Katanning SuperTown Heritage Centre Project (KSHCP).

A part of the KSHCP is the Welcome Precinct which encompasses the All Ages Playground, Skate Park and Lions Park. There is going to be a redevelopment of the area with planned landscaping, new parking areas, amenities including a public toilet block, pedestrian access ways, extension of the Skate Park and complete rebuild of the All Ages Playground.

This work is scheduled to commence in January 2019. The Shire is therefore seeking a not for profit group to remove the children’s play equipment from the fenced area and relocate it to Prosser Park.

The group would be responsible for the removal or all the items, transport and works involved in relocating the equipment for a negotiated service fee from the Shire. The Shire will be able to help with limited capacity of plant and labour as negotiated.

Council envisioned that this could be a fundraising opportunity for your club/group. The works would have to be completed before Christmas.

If you are interested in this proposal, please contact Sue Eastcott on 9821 9999 or email admin2@katanning.wa.gov.au before 5 October 2018.

Once all interested parties are registered a briefing session will be held to explain the proposal on Wednesday 10 October 2018 at 5.30pm in the Community Room at the Katanning Library.

Fire Management Requirements
Compliance with the fire management requirements notice is required by 1 November each year and is to be maintained until 30 April each year or as otherwise gazetted.
Property owners will have received with their Rates Notice a Fire Management Requirement Notice for 2018/2019.  This gives you the information on the standard of work required for your property to reduce the fire hazard over the summer period. If you are using a contractor to complete this work please contact them now to ensure that the work can be completed by the due date of 1 November. Compliance Officers will start inspections from the first week of November and infringements will be issued to those that don’t meet requirements.
The Fire Management Requirements are in place to reduce the risk of a fire starting and /or the severity of an impact from an approaching fire. The Notice is not only in place for your safety and for the protection of your property, but also for the safety of the volunteer fire fighters who put themselves at considerable risk to fight the fires.
If you have any questions please contact your local Fire Control Officer, or the Community Emergency Services Manager Kelly MacLeod on 0417 071 567.

Can Emergency Services find you?
Emergency service responders are requesting all households to check their house street number. Please ensure your house street number is clear and visible from the road. Clear and visible street numbers assists emergency services in responding quickly to any emergency including fire, ambulance or police. If your house does not have a clear and visible street number this can cause a delay in response. This also assists other services such as tree lopping or Water Corp.
If you have any questions please contact the Shire on 9821 9999.

How to contact the Ranger
If anyone has seen or have been in any situations regarding dogs or cats please inform the Ranger through the correct channels as messaging/posting through different facebook pages/groups and other such social media platforms will not help in providing the correct services.

Please contact the Ranger directly through the Shire of Katanning on 0409 891 645 or our after hours services on 9821 9999 and/or email at admin@katanning.wa.gov.au

These issues are important to us so please help us help you through any of these matters.

Magpie Season is here
Please take the time to read the helpful information provided by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions at their website https://www.dpaw.wa.gov.au/images/documents/plants-animals/animals/living-with-wildlife/35_magpies.pdf.

Please note that magpies, and all fauna native to Australia, are afforded protection under both State and Commonwealth Law. Therefore the Ranger cannot intervene.

They swoop to protect eggs and young from potential predators. It is better to avoid the area or live with the swooping bird for six to eight weeks until the chicks learn to fly and the problem ceases.

Talking about:
The Apricot Colonel by Marian Halligan

For Cassandra, an editor, books are easy. It's the real life that's the challenge: it doesn't sit quietly and let itself be fixed. Right now Cassandra's life seems far too heavy on the suspense, while the romance is distinctly unconvincing. But that was before the murders started, and before she suspected her own name was on the hit list.
