Hello from Washington!

"On the ground, safe." That is one of the primary messages that I have gotten to send to my wife recently. I wouldn't have even thought of it as an issue, and neither would she except for the accident a couple of months ago. For those of you who don't know, at the end of our first week of school we started going on our first flights. Unfortunately, one of those planes crashed killing the two students and the instructor. At this point all we know is the track of the plane before it hit the ground. It has been a very hard couple of months, but our class has been brought together and forced us to get closer to each other. We took about two weeks to process and had a chance to talk with counselors about what happened. We also had the chance to travel to South Dakota and support the wife of one of the men in the crash. After that we eased back into school and went through a reinstatement process to make sure that we were ready to fly. Since then we have been flying as much as we can weather dependent. God has a plan in all of this, but I don't know what that is just yet. Pray for the wives as they are still trying to figure out their new normal, and for Moody to show God to those that see how we handle this.

This is how David sees the world during his flight training.
Kirsten got the chance to paint a portion of the plane during her training.
We have recently gotten the oppurtunity to get more involved at that church where Kirsten serves in children's ministry. We also had the chance to speak during their Sunday service and be encouraged and encourage the church. We also recently had our missions conference at Moody. It was really encouraging to be able to visit with the various organizations, and see how the entire community is brought together by a tragic accident. Amidst all of this we also were able to talk with several organizations and after many long and encouraging conversations we are leaning towards Missionary Aviation Fellowship. We aren't all in and set on going with MAF, but for now we think that is the direction that God is sending us for now.
Moody has many aircraft, and several hangars for storage and for maintenance training. This is the maintenance shop where the planes that are flown for training are kept up.
I (David) am about two months into my fourth year of school and I am currently not working so that I can focus on doing my school and doing it well. Because of the accident we did not fly for the first few weeks, and once we were all cleared to fly smoke rolled in from the wildfires all along the western states. Because of this, the visibility was reduced and so we were not able to fly for about 3 weeks. Now that we have finally started flying again it is going well. I have almost completed the first section of three in the program. But, with that I have more intense times of schooling to go through over the next few months as we try to finish what everyone is telling us may be impossible.
I (Kirsten) just began my third year of school and my last year of maintenance before flight begins. It has been so exciting to see the Lord's provision for both David's training as well as my own. With what we currently make now, I am not even supposed to be in school! God obviously has a different plan in mind! As of right now, we have the funds to get me through school until the end of October, but after that our direction is unclear. In order to be fully funded for school this year, we must raise $12,000. Please pray that we would raise the support that we need in order to continue my aviation training! If you'd like to support us financially to be a part in getting the Scripture overseas through aviation, please do not hesitate to let us know! We love you guys! Thank you for your love and prayers!
Prayer Requests:
  • That we would continue to trust in the Lord even through these times
  • That we would follow God's guidence concerning our next steps in school
  • That we would be intentional in our busyness to listen to the Lord's prompting
With love,
David and Kirsten
