Dear <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>

SDSN is a global network, bringing together more than 800 universities, research centers and knowledge organizations worldwide. Every year SDSN organizes the International Conference for Sustainable Development (ICSD) in order to create learning spaces across disciplines, national contexts and cultures, as well as to facilitate the exchange among representatives from its many and diverse member organizations.

I had the privilege to attend this year’s edition of the ICSD in September, listening to the presentations, keynote speeches and panel discussions with some of the most renowned scholars in the field of sustainable development. I was impressed again by the wealth of knowledge and evidence that SDSN is able to bring together. We were also visited by world leaders such as Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand. She talked about the importance of values in politics and setting an agenda for change, but also she was interested to hear what science has to say on how to best design sustainability pathways.

I returned home to Switzerland inspired by the fruitful discussions with my colleagues from other networks (see overview of all national, regional and thematic SDSN networks) and by the variety of evidence-based solutions on how to design the sustainability transformation. Above all, the ICSD gave us a sense of optimism to continue taking action towards the achievement of the SDGs.

I look forward to sharing these inputs with you at the next possible occasion.
