100 NGOs starteten eine neue Kampagne, in der sie die Europäische Kommission auffordern, das EU-Recht zum Schutz aller europäischer Wasserquellen, wie Flüsse, Bäche, Seen, Feuchtgebiete und Grundwasser, bei der laufenden Evaluierung (dem so genannten „Fitness Check“) zu verteidigen. Die Online-Kampagne mit dem Titel #ProtectWater wird vom Europäischen Umweltbüro, dem WWF, der European Anglers Alliance, dem European Rivers Network und Wetlands International geleitet, die zusammen das Living Rivers Europe-Netzwerk bilden. Wir kaufen euch nicht alles ab!
Was bedeutet Konsum für junge Menschen im Senegal und in Deutschland? Unter dieser Fragestellung trafen sich deutsche und senegalesische NaturfreundInnen Ende März im Senegal. Nach dem Treffen in Deutschland im Herbst 2017, besuchte die Gruppe nun auch im Senegal verschiedene Projekte und diskutierte zum 12. Nachhaltigkeitsziel der Vereinten Nationen „nachhaltiger Konsum“. Besonderer Fokus lag dabei auf dem Thema Ernährung. Während in Deutschland Lebensmittel hauptsächlich in Plastik verpackt im Supermarkt gekauft werden, ist im Senegal der lokale Markt die Einkaufsmöglichkeit der Wahl. Die TeilnehmerInnen berichten in einer Jugendzeitschrift, die in Deutsch und Französisch erscheinen ist, über ihre Erfahrungen: --->
Das Projekt wird partnerschaftlich von der Association Sénégalaise des Amis de la Nature (ASAN) und der Naturfreundejugend Deutschlands durchgeführt und vom deutschen Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung gefördert.

Das Jedermannsrecht

Das Jedermannsrecht ist ein wichtiger Teil im Leben der Menschen in Finnland; es erlaubt den freien Zugang zu Wäldern und Naturgebieten fast überall im Land. Unabhängig vom Wohnort, spielt das Jedermannsrecht eine wichtige Rolle für die Menschen, insbesondere für die Erholung in der Natur, im Ökotourismus und für die Nutzung der Natur als Lebensgrundlage. Ohne dieses Jedermannsrecht könnten die Menschen nur öffentliche Bereiche, Straßen und ihren eigenen Besitz nutzen.
Wie zahlreiche Studien zeigen, fördert der Aufenthalt in Wäldern und in der Natur die Gesundheit des Menschen: Wir erholen uns besser von Stress, der Kopf wird frei und Herzschlag und Blutdruck werden positiv beeinflusst.

Ecocity Forum 2018
Vom 3. bis 5. Oktober fand in Thessaloniki, Griechenland, das Ecocity Forum 2018 „Circular Economy in Smart Cities“ statt. Organisiert wurde die Konferenz von Ecocity Greece – einer Plattform, in der sich auch die Naturfreunde Griechenland engagieren – mit dem Ziel, das Bewusstsein für Kreislaufwirtschaft und Smart Cities zu schärfen. Die Naturfreunde Internationale, vertreten durch Katrin Karschat, war eingeladen, die Initiative Transforming Tourism vorzustellen.

Präsident der Naturfreunde Guinea (ALUSFADE-GUINÉE)
Sékou Kader NANAMOU ist der Präsident der Naturfreunde Guinea, die im Oktober mit der Umsetzung des aktuellen Projekts des Naturfreunde-Klimafonds begonnen haben. Im Interview spricht er über dieses Projekt und über die Arbeit der Naturfreunde in Guinea.
Die Naturfreunde Guinea haben gerade mit der Umsetzung des aktuellen Projektes des Naturfreunde-Klimafonds im Biosphärenreservat der Nimba Berge begonnen. Was soll mit diesem Projekt erreicht werden?
Das Projekt soll in der Bevölkerung Guineas, aber insbesondere bei den Menschen, die in den Nimba Bergen leben, Bewusstsein für den Klimaschutz schaffen. Wir informieren und zeigen den Menschen, wie verbesserte Kochstellen funktionieren – so werden sie sehen, dass sie damit einen Beitrag gegen die Rodung der Wälder und gegen die globale Erwärmung leisten können.
Weiters soll das Projekt lokale Behörden, und letztlich auch die Regierung, dazu ermutigen, Maßnahmen zur Minderung der Auswirkungen des Klimawandels zu ergreifen bzw. zu verstärken. Und es ist durchaus möglich, dass Partnerschaften geschlossen werden, um Synergien von Aktionen und Maßnahmen in anderen Teilen des Landes zu erzielen.
Was unterscheiden denn die neuen Kochstellen von den traditionellen?
Die Unterschiede sind enorm! Im Gegensatz zu den herkömmlichen Kochstellen verbrauchen die verbesserten weniger Holz, sie werden schneller heiß, sie halten die Wärme länger, sie helfen Zeit zu sparen (die Kochzeit ist kürzer), sie sind wirtschaftlicher, sie tragen zum Umweltschutz bei (weniger Abholzung, weniger negative Auswirkungen auf das Klima), sie schützen die Gesundheit der Menschen, weil sie weniger Rauch emittieren.

Neuigkeiten aus der Landschaft des Jahres 2018–2020 Senegal/Gambia
Klimagerechtigkeit solidarisch leben!
„Klimagerechtigkeit solidarisch leben!“ So lautet das Motto der Landschaft des Jahres Senegal / Gambia. Um diesem Motto auch in Europa Gehör zu verschaffen und auf die Bedeutung von Klimaschutz und Klimagerechtigkeit aufmerksam zu machen, war Mamadou Mbodji, Koordinator der Landschaft des Jahres Senegal / Gambia und Präsident des Naturfreunde Afrika-Netzwerks, im Oktober bei den Naturfreunden in mehreren süddeutschen Städten zu Gast. Mamadou Mbodji hat bei etlichen Veranstaltungen das Thema aus der Sicht eines Bewohners einer jener Regionen angesprochen, die vom Klimawandel besonders stark betroffen sind, und die gravierenden Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf seine Heimat Senegal geschildert: „Trockene Regionen, wie zum Beispiel die Sahelzone, werden noch trockener. Durch das Ausbleiben der ohnehin spärlichen Regenfälle ist es vielerorts nicht mehr möglich, Landwirtschaft zu betreiben. So bleibt vielen Menschen als einzige Alternative die Abwanderung in die großen Städte, wo sie jedoch auch kaum Zukunftsperspektiven finden.“

#ProtectWater
100 NGOs launched a new campaign calling on the European Commission to defend the EU law that protects all sources of Europe’s water, such as rivers, streams, lakes, wetlands and groundwater, during its ongoing evaluation (known as a “Fitness Check”). The online campaign, called #ProtectWater, is led by the European Environmental Bureau, WWF, European Anglers Alliance, European Rivers Network and Wetlands International, who together form the Living Rivers Europe coalition. We just don’t buy it!
What role does consumption play in the lives of young people from Senegal and Germany? To discuss this, German and Senegalese Naturefriends met in Senegal at the end of March. After the meeting in Germany in the fall of 2017, the group now visited different projects in Senegal and discussed the United Nations’ SDG 12, “sustainable consumption”. They especially focused on nutrition. While in Germany most food items are wrapped in plastic and sold in supermarkets, in Senegal the local markets are still the shopping opportunity of choice. The participants described their experiences in a Youth magazine, which was published in German and French.
The project is carried out by the Association Sénégalaise des Amis de la Nature (ASAN) and Young Naturefriends Germany and is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Everyman’s rights

Everyman’s right is an important part of people’s lives in Finland, allowing free access to forests and land areas almost everywhere in the country. Irrespective of people’s place of residence, everyman’s right plays an important role for them, especially in outdoor recreation, eco-tourism and the use of nature as a source of livelihood. Without everyman’s right, people would be confined to public areas, roads and the land that they personally own.
According to several studies, being in the forests and close to nature increases the well-being: recovering from the stress is enhanced, the mind is refreshed, and the heart pulse and blood pressure are decreased.

Ecocity Forum 2018
From 3rd to 5th October, the Ecocity Forum 2018 “Circular Economy in Smart Cities" took place in Thessaloniki, Greece. Ecocity Greece – a platform, in which also Naturefriends Greece engage themselves – organised this conference to raise awareness regarding Circular Economy and Smart Cities and invited international experts to speak in the different panel sessions. Naturefriends International, represented by Katrin Karschat, were invited to present the Transforming Tourism initiative.

SÉKOU KADER NANAMOU, President of Naturefriends Guinea (ALUSFADE-GUINÉE)
Sékou Kader NANAMOU is the President of Naturefriends Guinea, which started to implement the current Naturefriends Climate Fund project in October. He speaks about the project and about his work for Naturefriends Guinea.
Naturefriends Guinea just started to implement the current Naturefriends Climate Fund project in the biosphere reserve in the Nimba mountains. What is the goal of the project?
The project is supposed to increase awareness for climate change among the people of Guinea and especially the local community in the Nimba mountains. We inform the people and show them how the improved stoves work – that way they can see how they can work against deforestation and global warming.
In addition, the project will encourage the local administration and the finally the government to take measures against the consequences of climate change and to improve the existing ones. It is also possible to start partnerships to create synergies from actions and measures in other parts of the country.
How are the new stoves different from the old ones?
The differences are enormous! In comparison to the traditional stoves, less wood is needed, they heat up quicker and retain heat better, save time because the cooking time is reduced, they are more economic, support environmental protection (less deforestation), protect people’s health as they emit less smoke.

Living climate justice!
„Living climate justice!“ is the motto of the Landscape of the Year Senegal/The Gambia. To spread the word also in Europe, Mamadou Mbodji, coordinator of the Landscape of the Year Senegal/The Gambia and President of the African Naturefriends Network, travelled to different cities in Southern Germany in October. Mamadou Mbodji spoke at countless events and described the issue from a perspective of someone living in a region heavily effected by climate change and described the devastating consequences climate change has on his home country Senegal: “Dry regions, as for example the Sahel region, are getting even dryer. When the already scarce annual rainfalls are missing, agriculture becomes impossible in a lot of places. Thus, many people have no alternative but to move to the cities, where their prospects are not great either."

Nous n´achetons pas tout !
Que signifie « consommation » pour des jeunes au Sénégal et en Allemagne ? Voici la question autour de laquelle se sont rencontrés fin mars au Sénégal des jeunes Amies et Amies de la Nature allemands et sénégalais. Après une rencontre en Allemagne en automne 2017, le groupe a alors visité divers projets au Sénégal et abordé dans des discussions le 12e des Objectifs de développement durable des Nations Unies, à savoir la « consommation durable ». Une attention particulière a été accordée à l’alimentation. Si en Allemagne les produits alimentaires se vendent principalement en emballages plastiques dans les supermarchés, le marché local est au Sénégal le lieu privilégié pour faire ses courses. Les participant/e/s rendent compte de leurs expériences dans un magazine pour jeunes, publié en allemand et en français .
Le projet est réalisé en partenariat par l’Association Sénégalaise des Amis de la Nature (ASAN) et les Jeunes Amis de la Nature d’Allemagne (Naturfreundjugend Deutschlands) et soutenu par le ministère allemand de la Coopération économique et le développement.

Le Droit de tout un chacun

Le Droit de tout un chacun est un élément important dans la vie des populations de Finlande ; il permet l’accès libre aux forêts et aux zones naturelles presque partout dans le pays. Où que l’on réside, le Droit de tout un chacun joue un rôle important pour les gens, notamment pour la récréation dans la nature, dans l’écotourisme et pour la jouissance de la nature comme fondement de vie. Sans ce Droit de tout un chacun les gens ne pourraient accéder qu’aux espaces publics, aux rues et à leur propriété personnelle.
De nombreuses études mettent en évidence que passer du temps dans la forêt et dans la nature profite à la santé des gens : nous récupérons mieux du stress, nous libérons l’esprit, et le rythme cardiaque ainsi que la tension sont influencés positivement.

Ecocity Forum 2018
Le « Ecocity Forum » 2018 a eu lieu du 3 au 5 octobre à Thessaloniki, Grèce, sous le titre « L’économie circulaire dans les villes intelligentes ». La conférence a été organisée par Ecocity Greece – une plateforme dans laquelle s’engagent aussi les Amis de la Nature de Grèce ; ceci dans le but d’une sensibilisation pour l’économie circulaire et les « villes intelligentes » (Smart Cities). Des spécialistes internationaux ont pu être recrutés pour les différents panels. L’Internationale des Amis de la Nature, représentée par Katrin Karschat, avait été invitée à présenter l’initiative Transforming Tourism.

Sékou Kader NANAMOU est Président des Amis de la Nature de Guinée, qui ont entamé en octobre la mise en œuvre de l’actuel projet du Fonds des Amis de la Nature pour le climat. Dans l’interview il parle du projet et du travail des Amis de la Nature en Guinée.
À présent les Amis de la Nature de Guinée ont commencé à mettre en œuvre l’actuel projet du Fonds des Amis de la Nature pour le climat, dans la réserve de biosphère des Monts Nimba. À quoi ce projet doit-il parvenir ?
Le projet doit favoriser une réelle prise de conscience des populations guinéennes, notamment celles riveraines des Monts Nimba, par rapport au phénomène du changement climatique. A travers les séances de sensibilisation et de démonstration sur les foyers améliorés, elles s’apercevront que l’utilisation de ces derniers permet de lutter contre la déforestation et le réchauffement climatique. Le projet doit également inciter les autorités locales, et plus loin le Gouvernement, à prendre ou renforcer les mesures d’atténuation des effets du changement climatique. Il n’est pas exclu que des partenariats soient formalisés en vue d’une synergie d’action et une démultiplication dans d’autres localités du pays.
Quelles sont, concrètement, les différences des fours améliorés comparés aux fours traditionnels ?
Les différences sont notoires ! Contrairement aux foyers traditionnels, les foyers améliorés consomment moins de bois ; chauffent très vite ; gardent la chaleur à l’intérieur ; permettent de gagner du temps (le temps de cuisson est plus court) ; permettent une économie financière ; contribuent à la protection de l’environnement (réduire le déboisement et atténuer les effets du changement climatique) ; protègent la santé des populations, car ils émettent très peu de fumée.

Infos du Paysage de l`Année 2018–2020 Sénégal / Gambie
Vivre la justice climatique dans la solidarité !
« Vivre la justice climatique dans la solidarité ! » - voilà la devise du Paysage de l’Année Sénégal/Gambie. Pour que cet appel soit aussi entendu en Europe et pour attirer l’attention sur l’importance de la protection climatique et de la justice climatique, Mamadou Mbodji, coordinateur du Paysage de l’Année Sénégal/Gambie et Président du Réseau Africain des Amis de la Nature (RAFAN), a été l’invité, en octobre, des Amis de la Nature de plusieurs villes d’Allemagne du Sud. Mamadou Mbodji a abordé le thème à l’occasion de plusieurs conférences et réunions, parlant comme un habitant de l’une des régions les plus affectées par le changement climatique. Il a décrit les effets graves du changement climatique sur son pays le Sénégal : « Dans des régions déjà sèches, par exemple dans la zone sahélienne, la sécheresse augmentera encore. Si les pluies, déjà insuffisantes, se raréfient encore, l’agriculture ne sera plus possible à bien des endroits. Ainsi, la seule alternative pour beaucoup de gens est la migration vers les grandes villes, où il y a également peu de perspectives ».
