Arr...its a pirate's life for me!
One week into the school holidays and for some of our sailors, it was a very very busy week!
Several of our sailors participated in the annual sail camp, Westsail at Royal Fresh Water Bay Yacht Club. An intensive 4 day camp comprising of 10.5 hours days, 10 boat classes and over 80 sailors, followed up by the Youth Championships. Our young sailors were exposed to not only sailing skills but also fitness designed for sailors targeting the muscle groups and mental exercises required to improve their sailing skills. Onshore sessions also included appropriate diet, learning about weather and setting their boats up properly. Our sailors are also able to develop relationships with the greater sailing community and now know the support network and sailing pathways that are available for them to grow into.
The camp was followed through by the WA State Youth Championships, which took place on the 26-27th September. The wind conditions changed quite drastically from the camp days of less than 10 knots to 20+ knots! Many of our younger sailors were unable to race in this but this certainly has extended their experience!
Some of our sailors (and their parents!) are learning about how important it is to read the Sailing Instructions and rules and learned about various 3 letter abbreviations such as RET, DPI, DNS and DNC etc!
Despite all that, we have had some fantastic results from all our sailors!
Laser Radial
Eleanor Wise (7)
Laser 4.7
Bryce (4), Aidan (9), Mitchell (11) and Alicia (12).
Optimist Open
Ben (13), Sam (14), Bradley (15).
Optimist Intermediate

Well done all and we are proud of you! (more pictures will be posted in Facebook)
Now, we are into the 2nd week of school holidays, our sailing programs are in full swing! We have a full class for Tackers 1 and a few Tackers 2, 3 and Start Racing students who are learning to race in an Optimist. Lasers and the Pacers are also well attended! Hoping to see new faces in our summer series soon!
Do not forget to register for the coming summer series if you have not already done so. Registration is now done online, we are no longer able to manually register you on the 1st day of the season as before. You will need to do this prior to racing, failing which we may not be able to allow you to race due to the insurance requirements. Registration is easy, go to your TeamApp and there are links for Skipper registration and Crew (for double handed) registration.
Saturday 6th October, iPads will be available at the clubhouse for registration and the committee will be there to assist. Just make sure you have your Australian Sailing number and HYC membership number at hand.
The season will start with the Commodore's Cup on Opening Day, October 7th.
The timing for the dinghy race has changed to morning. Briefing at 0845. We should be done by 1130, ready for the sail past. Do not forget to wear your pirate costume and roar your loudest Arrr!
