Blood Drive at ACC January 10th
ACC will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, January 10th here in "The Gate."  Donors are needed.  If you cannot donate you can help by encouraging others to give, bake cookies or make soup.  Please contact Shelly Brooks at 217-648-2992 to donate or volunteer at the event.  More info in flyer below...

Fleece Blanket Project

Please join the Missions Team & Jr/Sr Youth Groups for a “fleecing” good time on Sunday evening, January 13, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  We will be making fleece blankets & lap robes for Lincoln Christian Nursing Home &/or Inner City Mission of Springfield.  No sewing experience is needed!  Just bring yourself, sewing scissors, and if you have it, new, pre-washed 1 yard of fleece for lap robes, 1 ¼ yards for toddler blanket, 1 ½ yards for child/youth blanket, or 2 yards for teen/adult blanket.  All fleece should be anti-pill fleece.  If you sew, check your stash!  Joann’s Fabrics usually has coupons/sales for ½ price fleece.  Or, if you prefer, give money to Susan to shop for fleece.  NOTE:  The nursing home is requesting patriotic fleece, so lap robes/blankets may be given to Veterans.  A light meal will be served.  To aid in meal planning, adult volunteers wishing to attend, should contact Susan.  Any questions, see or call Susan Swearingen 648-5085 or cell 309-824-5085.

Annual Meeting January 20th
The ACC Annual Meeting will be on Sunday, January 20th immediately following the worship service.  We will enjoy a potluck meal prior to the meeting.  The goal of the meeting is to allow the congregation to affirm the 2019 budget, disperse the 2018 Annual Report, and provide an update on "The Gate" building project.
Life Group Leader and Apprentice Training Breakfast
Saturday, January 26th at 7 a.m. here at the church

Our next training breakfast for Life Group leaders and apprentices is scheduled for Saturday, January 26th at 7 a.m. in "The Gate."  Please bring a breakfast item to share. We will reflect on 2018 group life, share plans for 2019, and continue our focus on what is necessary to launch new groups.  In addition to our current leaders/apprentices, anyone in the church family who would like to consider helping to lead a small group is welcome to attend!

Desiring to Serve, Just Not Sure Where?

Gift-Assessment Elective Class begins February 3 (9 am)

Are you relatively new to ACC family and looking for a place to use your gifts for ministry?  OR, perhaps you’ve been part of the church family for a long time, but still long to find an area to plug in and serve others? We are offering a three-week elective (Feb 3, 10, and 17) during the Bible School hour (9 am each Sunday) focusing on identifying your gifts and passions for ministry, and hopefully finding a place to serve that aligns with your spiritual gifts. Please let Doug know to register for the class to ensure we have plenty of materials available.  Please text or call Doug at 217-737-3731 to sign up!

The Tuesday Evening Ladies Bible Study will resume on Tuesday January 8th at 6:30 at the Church.  We will be learning how to respond to our disappointments & trials in life with Lysa Terkeurst's "It's Not Supposed To Be This Way".  Please join us in this 7 week Bible study to learn God's Word, find His strength and support each other as we do life on earth.  See Cindy Sears or Karen Rawlins if you have any questions. We will be ordering the books to go with this study soon.
Ladies' Community Bible study will be starting back on Thursday, January 24 at 9:00 a.m. at ACC. Please note the change of venue.  We will be meeting in The Gate, as it is handicap accessible.  We will be continuing with our John MacArthur Fundamentals of the Faith study.  If you were unable to study with us this past fall, you are still welcome to join us.  Just bring your Bible and a desire to share God's Word.  Any questions, please contact Shelly Brooks at 648-2992.

Valentine Care Boxes:  We will be mailing Valentine Care Packages to college students and military personnel on Monday, February 11th.  This is our 26th year sending these care packages.  Items to be included (homemade cookies, candy, non-buttered microwave popcorn, chewing gum, snacks, etc.) need to be at the church by Noon on Saturday, February 9th.  Names, addresses, and donations for mailing expenses and goodies may be given to Susan Swearingen. Susan & John will be available on Sundays to accept your monetary donations.  Susan needs the names and addresses by Sunday, February 3rd.  In 2018, we mailed 23 college, 18 stateside military and 5 overseas military packages.  Postage for the in-state boxes is approximately $10-$14, out-of-state $14-$16, and overseas military $16.75.  A package from home, filled with goodies and love, is very much appreciated by the recipients.  Thank you for your participation in this project.  If any questions, please call Susan Swearingen, (h) 648-5085 or (cell) 309-824-5085.

Youth and Family Ministry News

Each year our ACC kids participate in powerful, Christ-centered events produced by an organization called Christ in Youth, commonly referred to as CIY (www.ciy.com).  For 2019 our kids will have an opportunity to participate in three grade-intentional events (click on event name below for web info):

Since these events are coming up you may hear some talk about “CIY” around the church.  In fact, you may already be helping us out with these events by participating in our M&M fundraiser. Thank you! Here are some specifics on each event.

SuperStart is designed for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders.  SuperStart is a high-energy weekend event in which preteens can learn and grow in their relationship with friends, leaders, and most importantly, God.  SuperStart will be held at Eastview Christian Church in Bloomington on Friday March 1st and Saturday March 2nd.  Transportation will be provided to and from the event each day. The cost for Superstart is $60 per student to cover the cost of the event and a meal. Payment is due by Sunday, January 20th.

Believe is a fun-packed overnight event for Junior High students only.  It is structured specifically for this important age group and is packed with powerful worship and teaching from God’s word by some of the top youth leaders in the Nation.  Believe is held at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield.  Students spend one night at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel which is attached to the convention center for maximum safety and convenience.  Transportation is provided, leaving Friday afternoon and returning early Saturday evening.  The cost for Believe is $75 per student to cover the cost of the event and lodging.  Payment is due by Sunday, January 20th.

Move is a five day, intensive experience for High School students only and designed to amplify the call of Christ on student’s lives to become Kingdom Workers.  Move is held on the Campus of Anderson University located in Anderson, Indiana.  Students stay on campus in student housing, eat at the college cafeteria, and participate in amazing worship and group sessions, while seeking the call of Christ on their lives.  The cost for believe is $309 per student and includes room and board, meals and transportation.  Payment is due by Sunday, March 17th.
