 1941 Trail Plantings!
National Public Lands Day plantingsSaturday, October 6
9:00am-12:00noon
Glen Providence Park – main entrance

Rain date Sunday, October 7

It's not too late to join us! We picked out beautiful native trees, shrubs, and woodland plants to help restore the forest along the 1941 Trail, where several trees fell during last winter's storms.

The trail is named for the Glen Providence Nature Guide from 1941, which leads the visitor on a self-guided tour through the park, starting down the 1941 Trail!

If you can join us, we ask you to please register for this event by replying to this email – and let us know the number of volunteers in your party.

Fallen trees
With all of the storms and rain in 2018, it has been quite a year for fallen trees in Glen Providence and other local parks. Delaware County Parks & Recreation has had their hands full responding to downed trees and other storm damage. Just in the past 9 days, a tree-sized limb came down by the stage, and a large tree fell blocking the Mountain Laurel Trail. County Parks already cleared both - we can never thank them enough for their care of our County parks!

Of course the ultimate loss was the grand White Oak on the sledding hill this spring. For those who missed our photo tribute on facebook, we have added photos of the White Oak through the decades on our website.

The losses of this year’s trees are all the more reason to keep planting trees!

Arts in the Park
Now that we are fully into fall, we are looking back at our summer concert series, as expertly documented in photos and prose by our phenomenal photographer George Tate! Get a taste of the concerts, starting with the soulful kick-off by Tiffany Jones in June, the commanding singer-songwriter Mutlu in July, the enchanting Delco Symphony Brass Quintet in August, and the mesmerizing Sweetbriar Rose in September!

We're already looking forward to next year!

In other news...
  • Saturday was the inaugural day for the Borough’s newest event, Media Open Streets, organized by Transition Town Media (TTM) and other local organizations! It was a fun day with  activities along the route through town; salsa, yoga, and performances in Glen Providence Park; and more activities at the park entrance. Check out the photos and recap, and thank you to TTM and other volunteers for all of their hard work organizing this event.
  • It was exciting to see a Yellow-billed Cuckoo recently in the park! It’s not new to our Glen Providence Bird List, as it had been heard before, but we had never seen one. Our list is holding strong at 127 species!
  • A fantastic, four-minute video of the park from last October - taken by park visitor Brent Hinkle - popped up again in our facebook notifications. It has a great combination of drone and trail footage, and shows the majestic White oak on the sledding hill, 5 months before it fell. The video is a nice virtual tour of Glen Providence Park!

Save the date for our History & Nature Walk on November 3! As always, you can Follow us on facebook and our website to stay posted.
