Sunday's Message by Pastor John
"Oikos:  Where People Know Your Name"
Ephesians 2:11-22, Romans 15:7, Romans 16:1-6

Brent Hoover will be with us on Sunday for a Big House adult education presentation on his unique and exciting ministry.
Big House Sundays:
You may have noticed our discipleship hour consists of two parts:  House Groups and Big House Sundays. We are excited to share the following upcoming Big House Sundays:
  • September 30 - Brent Hoover
  • October 14 - Dr. Travis West
  • October 28 - Harvest Celebration, Reformation Sunday
  • November 4 - Rev. Kate Kooyman
Don't Miss These Opportunities!
  • New Members Class:  Are you new to the AACRC or interested in its ministry? Would you like to join the AACRC by becoming a member? Are you curious what membership means and involves for you and your family? Pastor Ryan will be leading a class the 1st and 3rd Wednesday nights from 7-8:30 throughout the fall. If you are interested, please reach out to him at rboes@aacrc.org or call the office.
  • Embodying the Text:  Hey Friends. You are invited to an exciting opportunity this October. On Saturday, October 13, Dr. Travis West will be here to lead a workshop on enacting the story of scripture. The group will be invited into the story of Exodus 17 to explore its meaning and how it is we interpret the text with our whole selves. Part of this group may also perform their interpretation in worship on Sunday. Space is limited as we only have 25-30 slots available so don’t wait to sign up for this incredible opportunity of discipleship and bible study. Contact Pastor Ryan if you are interested at rboes@aacrc.org. Or call the office at 734-665-0105.
    • Housing will be needed for 3-4 of our guests from this group.  If this is a need you can help with, please contact Pastor Ryan, rboes@aacrc.org, or the church office, office@aacrc.org.
A Missions Partnership...
The AACRC has supported the ministry of Jim and Ruth Padilla DeBorst since 2009.  Jim and Ruth have invited us to enter into an even deeper and more strategic relationship, one that might become an example of the type of relationship that mission and church could have.
CETI is a curriculum that is being used in several communities around the world to do just that.
Click here for more details on what that might look like as written by Peter Boldenow, Megan Boes, and Teressa Streng.
Oikos in Action...

An Opportunity to Extend Hospitality:  Each year our congregation has the opportunity to serve homeless men in our community by hosting the Rotating Shelter, which is the overflow housing program for the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County during the months of mid-November through March.  In the past, we have opened up our facilities for one week during that time frame.  We are eager to extend that hospitality to two weeks this coming season.  Mark your calendars for the following dates:  February 4-11 and March 4-11.  More information will be coming as the dates near.
Our high school students in REACH are again being given the opportunity to profess their faith as they meet regularly with Pastor Ryan throughout this year. Recently, Calvin College senior and AACRC member Sophia Bryson became a confessing member at Calvin CRC in Grand Rapids, Mich. Read the text of her testimony HERE.  We continue to live as a covenantal people, investing into each other and our students as God has so richly loved us.
Become a Stephen Minister: An Opportunity to Learn, Serve, and Grow
Stephen Ministers are members of the Ann Arbor CRC who go through 50 hours of caregiving training and then work alongside our pastors in providing emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time, such as divorce, grief, hospitalization, unemployment, terminal illness, relocation, chronic illness, or loneliness. We’ll be training a new class of Stephen Ministers beginning on January 7, 2019. If you are interested in being part of this class, complete the Stephen Minister Application and return it to Louise Gruppen or Marian Ijzerman by October 14, 2018.  Applications are available by e-mailing stephenministry@aacrc.org.

Click here for information regarding a fall conference for both Stephen Ministers and congregational members.  Contact Louise or Marian if you are interested in attending.
