Connecting our community!

Message from the Mayor

Welcome to the October e-newsletter.  Firstly, a big thank you to the dedicated community members and stakeholders who attended the community design forum sessions for the East Fremantle Oval Precinct Revitalisation Project. It was a great turnout and the feedback was very positive. Your input and participation into the development of the 'vision' for revitalising the East Fremantle Oval Precinct will provide guidance for this and future Councils. A ‘community preferred’ concept for the revitalisation has been developed and although the workshops for this process have concluded, you are invited to continue to provide your feedback and comment.  Further information about the next steps will be posted to the website in coming weeks.
Council recently endorsed the rollout of a new three (3) bin FOGO system for residents and work on the Interpretive Nodes at John Tonkin Park has commenced.  More information on these and other projects is provided in the articles below.  Lastly, a reminder that there is only seven (7) weeks to go to the East Fremantle's George Street Festival!
Kind regards - Mayor Jim O'Neill

East Fremantle Oval Precinct Revitalisation Project - Congratulations and thank you!

A huge thank you to everyone who participated or provided feedback during our community design forum.  You are invited to continue to share your comments and feedback about the process as well as the community preferred concept.  The consultant team at GHD are in the process of collating all the information obtained during the Community Design Forum process and preparing a detailed report for Council.  It is important to remember that this is the very first, yet important step in the revitalisation process. The concept will require fine tuning and reviewing, and there will be further opportunity for consultation with community and stakeholders. Once the Town has received the report, there will need to be a staged implementation process and business case developed, along with a funding strategy to ensure the success of the project. More information will be provided on the Town's website as it becomes available. If you haven't had the chance to see the preferred concept that was presented, please click here

You can also continue to provide feedback via email to efoval@eastfremantle.wa.gov.au;  or take at look at the project Facebook page  - https://www.facebook.com/ShapeOurFuture/ - please note that this project Facebook page will close on 10 October 2018.

On Loan Art Enhances Roundabouts

Renowned local artist Tony Jones has generously loaned two nautically themed artworks to the Town, which were installed into two roundabouts on Preston Point Road, East Fremantle.  "Port" and "Starboard" follow the theme of the Neighbourhood Domains outlined in the 'Residence to River' Public Art Strategy.

The Residence to River vision is to develop public art that captures the spirit of East Fremantle, is responsive to East Fremantle’s distinct neighbourhoods and considers the foreshore as a natural destination to explore.
Thank you Tony for the loan of these sculptures and for enabling the Town to combine public art and landscaping.

Changes to items accepted for recycling

The Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) who processes the contents of the Town's recycling bins has made some changes to the items which are accepted in yellow-topped recycling bins.
These changes are part of a broader effort to reduce contamination and make recycling easier for everyone to understand. By having clear and consistent information about recycling items it not only makes it easier to understand which bin to put it in, but in the long term will lead to better outcomes for recycling in Western Australia. For details about these changes click here.
