Welcome Zebracorns!

Meetings this week will have individual subteam meetings. You do not need to have decided for sure which subteam you want to work with this season, take this time to explore and try different things. The lab is open from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, with additional time from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for specific projects. Preseason hour tracking has started, so make sure to come to meetings!

Rumble in the Roads Survey!
Team 900 will be attending an FRC offseason event, Rumble in the Roads. We will be leaving on November 2nd around 5:00pm and returning late at night on November 3rd. It is located in Newport News, Virginia. Please fill out the survey at https://zebracorn.link/rumble18, regardless of whether or not you will be attending. Survey responses are due by October 3rd at midnight.

The estimated cost is about $75, please see one of the mentors if you have financial hardships and want to attend.

Required Forms
Make sure you've filled out and submitted the forms at the end of the handbook! These are necessary for working with tools and being a part of the team! If you are not a NCSSM residential student, please make sure to fill out the waiver at http://zebracorn.link/fabform so you can use the tools in the Fabrication Laboratory. Also, make sure to sign up for STIMS by creating an account at http://firstinspires.org, registering as a team member, and completing the parental permission form (Both FIRST and NC FIRST, they are on the same page). Let us know if you have any problems.

Hour Requirements!
Everyone must complete the 40 hour requirement over preseason (the beginning of the school year to December) to be a part of the team in January. At this point in the preseason, if you joined the team at the beginning of this school year, you should have about 13 hours. Your hour count can be found on the hours site, https://hours.team900.org/, and you can log in with the email and password you used at the beginning of the year. If you don't have 13 hours yet, that's okay, just make sure you're coming to more meetings in the future!

Upcoming Events!

Volunteer at Southwest Elementary

We will be visiting Southwest Elementary one afternoon the week of October 8th. More information and a form will be sent out through slack in the days to come.

October 27th Outreach

On October 27th, we will be volunteering at two events, both hosted on NCSSM's campus. One will be a First Lego League (FLL) Scrimmage hosted by teams we share a lab with. It is a great way to get involved with another level of FIRST and get to know our lab-mates. The other event is working with local Boy Scouts to help them get robot merit badges. Both will be a great opportunity to get involved on the team. NOTE: Boy Scout volunteers should have experience with EV3 programming. Also, a NASA Astronaut will be speaking. Please fill out the form below even if you do not plan to attend.

Bring a Barcode or RFID Tag
Make sure you bring a barcode or an RFID tag (Key fob for NCSSM students) to your meeting to get signed up in the hours system. If you do not have one, we can't track hours, so be sure to bring something!

Game Element Database!
The GED (Game Element Database or Cycle Time Database) is live! The strategy team is creating a huge database of cycle times from previous years, and we're seeking your help to fill it out! Our goal is to time different activities, performed by multiple robots of different skill levels, to figure out an approximate target for our timing in future games. If you're interested in strategy, or just want to get a feel for scouting, go to this link to get started: http://zebracorn.link/GED. Click on the "How To" tab in the footer for instructions on getting started. We are looking for all volunteers to help, and if you have any questions, please ask the #strategy channel in Slack.

Signing up for Slack
If you came to an interest meeting, you should have received a link to sign up for Slack, the main communication method of the Zebracorns. For handy instructions on how to register and get started with Slack, please visit http://zebracorn.link/slack! If you did not get an invite, please email mentors@team900.org.

Missed a Meeting?

That's fine! Make sure to read the handbook and come to our regular team meetings! You can view the recordings of our previous meetings by the pinned links in the #general channel in the team's slack. And don't worry, you'll catch on quickly.

As always, if you have any questions, please send an email to mentors@team900.org.
