Khopang Newsletter

September 2018

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Greetings to you all in the wonderful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus! We feel the greatest joy knowing that you are working together with us on a daily and monthly basis through your support and prayers lifted up on our behalf and also you joining with us in heart and spirit as we continue in His service. This month we'll share with you about the Long Neck (Pathong) tribe we have been working with.
Pathong Village Ministry Update
As we have written in our previous newsletters, these people are refugees from Burma, living in a remote village near the Thailand - Burma border. It is a four hour drive from Chiang Mai to this village, but Joel goes every Saturday morning and holds services for them on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings before they open up their shops.

When others are busy with their shops or have gone off to the field, Joel then spends time doing one-on-one witnessing because there are still many non-Christians who need to hear about the gift of salvation and the way of the cross. These refugees live in thatch-roofed bamboo homes with dirt floors because they use tripods or three stones for cooking on an open fireplace. They spend much of their time on their porches preparing foods, socializing, and receiving guests.

These people may be refugees, but they are extremely gifted and know a lot about crafts. They train their young ones from an early age as well so that their trade does not disappear. The old and the young all contribute to making a living and share in the workload and earnings, whether it be by weaving, hand-crafts or working in the field. The children will be lucky if they get to go to school.

Joel has been encouraging and teaching the new believers the importance of reading their Bibles every day. Here (right) you see that they have accountability to each other by having a time where they read scripture together. Reading out loud together is most enjoyable.
On occasions when Joel is gone to Burma side to evangelize among the Shan people, Miss Plu Phow (left) teaches and leads them in worship and Bible studies. She also teaches music and guitar, music drama, and coaches the young people to have singing contests too.
Please continue to pray for this work among the Pathong tribe as they are growing in numbers and also in their faith. We thank you for all your help and support in making it possible to take the Gospel to these lost people too. We love you and appreciate you all so very much. May God continue to bless you and provide for all your needs. If you should see Joel on Facebook, please identify yourself, what church you're from, what town, etc. so that he can accept you as a friend. He would love to chat with you and keep you informed. Till next time. Blessings!!

With sincere thanks and appreciation to all,
Joel and Marilyn Khopang

FORWARDING AGENTS CORNER

Jon and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week vacation abroad! This was our first ever vacation overseas so we were very excited! We got to see my 2 cousins that live in Hamburg, Germany and see many sites there as well as in inside St. Michael's ChurchLondon, England. We spent a week in each city.Jon making a chocolate bar In Hamburg we toured Chocoversum (a chocolate factory), visited Miniature Wonderland (the world's largest model railway exhibit), toured a concentration camp, visited the famous and beautiful St. Michael's Church, walked through the old Elbe Tunnel, walked around the park Planten und Blomen (literally translated "Plants and Flowers"), visited the Hamburg Fish Market (they sell a lot more than just fish!), and walked through a Russian U-Boat. In London we visited Madame Tussaud's wax museum, Marissa standing in front of Warner Bros poster of Hogwartsthe London Eye, SEA Life Aquarium, the London Dungeon, Jon and Marissa in front of StonehengeRegent's Park, Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Stonehenge, a Roman bathhouse, Buckingham Palace, Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Tower of London, Harry Potter Warner Bros Studio (my favorite part!), and Harrods, we also got to see the changing of the guard at changing of the guard at Buckingham PalaceBuckingham Palace, Parliament, Big Ben (even though the tower was under construction), Jon standing in front of Parliament while the Big Ben tower is under constructionWestminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and St. Paul's Cathedral. We were so exhausted from walking so much! Our flight landed Sunday night and we went back to work the next day! We are both still recovering from slight colds we got on vacation (what a bummer!) and jet lag, but we are so glad we got to do all that we did and wouldn't change a thing about it! I am sharing a few pictures with you here (bolded words are those pictured), but I took over 3,000 pictures during those 2 weeks! If you want to see more I will be posting them onto my Facebook page next week sometime.
