As the temperatures cool, things in the gardens are tapering off. The potatoes are almost completely harvested. We still have butternut squash, sweet peppers, and fresh herbs this week, and we anticipate harvesting radishes in about 10 days. The lettuce is further behind, but still coming along.

With autumn’s advent, be sure to appreciate our harvest this week.

Silver Valley Farm

When I was a kid, I remember riding home on the school bus and making a snack before I sat down in front of the TV to watch one of my favorite shows like Gillian’s Island. I would serve up a bowl of vanilla ice cream with Smucker’s Butterscotch Sauce.  I have a thing for butterscotch so when I was researching this recipe, this memory came back to me. Yesterday, as the skies were getting darker I stayed in to try out butterscotch sauce and butterscotch pudding. When I arrived at The Juniper Spoon kitchen to make relish, I had a taste test. There appeared to be no disappointments. So this week my NEW flavors are Butterscotch & Cherry. I did not make the delicious cherry jam but it is from Michigan and after recalling a request for cherry ice cream, I felt this was a safe bet. Hope you enjoy it!
