Food Pantry

The Heuvelton School Food Pantry is open from 3:30-5:30 on the fourth Thursday of each month.

This year the Heuvelton School Pantry has been the beneficiary of organic produce grown at Ogdensburg Correctional Facility by inmates in a program run by Corrections Officer Mike Rogers (see photo).  Incidentally, CO Rogers is uncle to our own Tessa Herron.

The garden program has generously delivered over 23,000 pounds of produce so far this growing season.
If you have extra grocery bags that you would like to donate to the food pantry, they will be used to distribute fresh vegetables to pantry patrons.

Backpack Program Holiday Fundraiser

It's that time of year again! The annual Backpack Program fundraiser is back again! We will be running this fundraiser until the first week in December. Pouches will be filled with snack foods, hats and mittens. If you would like to purchase a pouch you can contact Alicia Trombley at alicia.trombley@sllboces.orgThere are 59 students currently enrolled in the program.

New Elementary Dismissal Procedures

In our continued efforts to provide a safe environment for our children, there will be procedural changes regarding student dismissal. Beginning October 91h, children in Pre-K (pm) through Grade 6 will be brought down to the hallway by the Nurse's office. They will no longer wait in the cafeteria. Please be aware of the following expectations:
  • Students leaving with an adult must be signed out before a child is permitted to leave the building. A sign out sheet will be provided daily. Children will then be brought to the adult in the main lobby.
  • Children are only allowed to be signed out by the people listed below or who have been given permission by means of a note/email handed into the main office. Please include parents/guardians on the list below if you will be picking up your child(ren) at dismissal.

Please fill out the form which was sent home last week with the names of people who will be allowed to pick up your child(ren), including older High School siblings. Thank you for your cooperation as we strive to make Heuvelton Central School the safest place we can for our community. Remember, this procedure is only for end of day dismissal. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the elementary office via phone or email.

Faculty & Staff recently participated in the Positivity Project Character Strengths Test. They are pictured here showcasing their top character trait. Your character is the intersection of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Elementary Updates

Ties & Tutus

Last week, students were recognized for their demonstration of the Positivity Project character strength teamwork.
Teamwork means: "You work well as a member of a group or team. You are loyal and sacrifice your individual desires for the greater good."

This week, students were recognized for demonstrating open-mindedness. "Open-Mindedness means you like to consider new ideas and try new things. You examine things from all sides and don’t jump to conclusions. Great job being open-minded!"

Sight Word Masters

Congratulations to our students who have received a special karate belt! These colored belts mean they have mastered a certain level of sight words.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

The First Graders worked on teamwork recently for the positivity project. They had to try and build letters with their bodies. They made the letters O, Z and D.

Cookie Surgery

Recently Ms Cushing's classroom was transformed into an operating room and the students became distributive doctors. They dressed the part and even had their own operating table (cookie sheet). The students had to build Cookie Crisp arrays and use their scalpel (popsicle stick) to break it apart into two smaller arrays. Next, they had to suture the patient back together by solving for the top & bottom arrays and putting the totals together. We are happy to report that all the patients made it. 😉
