Help Us Get Greener

for September 26, 2018
We're open from 3 to 7 pm every Thursday
in the northwest corner of Dufferin Grove Park.

Dear Market Friends,

Heard the news? Dufferin Grove organic market has been nominated for Toronto’s Greenest Choice 2018! This is a City of Toronto initiative that invites residents to vote for the places, spaces and businesses that are helping to make Toronto one of the greenest cities in North America. Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market is a nominee in the Farmers’ Market category.

The online poll is now open for voting, and closes on Monday, October 8. So please vote for us – soon! There are prizes to Toronto residents who complete the poll. Learn more and view the poll here (#GreenestChoiceTO and tag @LiveGreenTO).

In other news, believe it or not, this is the last ‘path market‘ of the season. Next week, the sunset time retreats to before 7pm, so we move up to the rinkpad, where we can use the hockey lights at the end of the market. There will still be a huge abundance of great harvests and great food, so tell your friends where to find us.

Ok, now let’s talk about this week’s goodies! First off, Jenn of Everdale Farms, promises more of her glorious ginger! In addition, there will be lots of greens, herbs, squashes, raddish, onions, carrots, corn and more! And a heads up for next week: “We aren’t bringing flowers tomorrow, as the blooms are almost done but Jordan is hoping for some “everalasting” bouquets next week before thanksgiving. They will be fresh but are designed to hang and dry afterwards!”

From Shared Harvest, Kevin will be amazing us with “habaneros, san marzano paste tomatoes and eggplants. All available in bulk or small quantities too. Along with the usual beans, garlic, onions, arugula, zucchini, beets, carrots, lettuce, pac choi’s, napa cabbage, leeks and winter squash!”

Please visit all your other favourites for even more!

And get ready to delight your taste buds, as we welcome a new prepared food vendor to tomorrow’s market. Mismak of   Annamaya Kosa, offers delicious organic, Ethiopian Cuisine – yum!

And regrets from the following vendors, who unfortunately cannot be there tomorrow: Urban Harvest, First Fish, and All Sorts Acres, who promise to have lots of lamb next week!

Anything broken? Well it’s LAST CALL forThe 2018 Pop-up Repair Café! Bring stuff to fix! Electronics, bikes, clothes, computers–whatever you have that needs a little TLC to keep it working instead of heading to the dump!

Plans for this Sunday? There will be an open-air public meeting about Dufferin Grove Park on Sunday Sept.30 at 4 pm, beside the cob cafe (or in the rink clubhouse if the weather is bad). The meeting is being organized by CELOS, and is about the future of the park, and the city’s construction plans. More information here.

Music: The Turnups are coming! Yippee!

See you at market,

Nicole Jacobs
