VOICES UNITED MEETING
Voices United is a student organization that works to support immigration advocacy, founded by CBU DREAMers. The organization is holding its second meeting of the semester on Tuesday, October 2 in Rosa Deal 111, 12:20-1:00 p.m. It's recommended for members to bring dues to this meeting. In honor of Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), we are proud to announce that we will be celebrating Hispanic and Latin American cultures at Christian Brothers University. 
HISPANIC-AMERICANS IN THE 21ST CENTURY: STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Tuesday, October 2 | University Theater | 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Voices United will facilitate a forum to promote awareness and engage in meaningful dialogue about the experiences that affect Hispanic-American students in the U.S. SPECIAL GUEST: Roberto "Boro" Alfaro — "The Story of an Undocumented Immigrant Living in Memphis." This event is free of charge and open to all students, faculty, and staff. Light refreshments will be provided.
DVGC DAY 
DVGC Day (5th Annual Celebration of the founding of the Divine Voices Gospel Choir) will be held on Wednesday, October 3 from 11:00 a.m. to  4:30 p.m. in the Buckman Quad. Come visit DVGC to purchase concert tickets, food, and apparel. Vendors will be Chick-fil-a, Central BBQ, Papa Johns, Krispy Kreme, Office Depot, and Strategic Apparel. Everyone is asked to wear their best music-themed attire.
SUICIDE: THE RIPPLE EFFECT

Baptist College of Health Sciences and CBU join with the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network to present a screening of the documentary, Suicide: The Ripple Effect on Wednesday, October 3 in Spain Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. The feature length film takes you on a journey with Kevin Hines, who at age 19, attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. The film highlights Kevin’s miraculous story, while showing the devastating effects of suicide and the tremendous positive ripple effects of advocacy, inspiration, and action that are helping millions of people find the hope needed to stay alive.The documentary will be followed by a short discussion, and resources will be available. Refreshments will be served.
OFFICE OF RECREATION VS. EVERYBODY
The Office of Recreation is challenging CBU students, facility, and staff to take on the Intramural Staff in volleyball starting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3 in Canale Arena. Bring your "A" game!
PLOUGH LIBRARY FALL FEST 

Plough Library invites the entire CBU community to its annual Fall Fest this Thursday, October 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Buckman Quad in front of the library. Stop by for food, fun, and free stuff!
CATHOLIC CLIMATE COVENANT LUNCHEON
The Living Learning Communities will be hosting a free Pita Pita lunch discussion in honor of the Feast of Saint Francis on Thursday, October 4 in the LLC 104 classroom, 12:30-1:45 p.m. This Catholic Climate Covenant program, entitled “Who Is My Neighbor in a Climate-Threatened World?,” examines the connections between immigration, refugees, and global climate change. FITNESS FACILITY OPEN HOUSE
The new upgraded CBU fitness facility is now open on the east balcony of Canale Arena and available for student, faculty, and staff use. An Open House will be held on Thursday, October 4 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to tour the improvements and learn about the new equipment.
The Office of Recreation is seeking to hire 15 students to work the front desk in the new Canale Arena fitness facility. Deadline for submissions are Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. The Office is also seeking two (2) students to wear the mantle of Bucky, making appearances at various events, such as athletic events and Homecoming. Those interested should be energetic, have an excellent personality, and be able to put on a show for the audience.. All applicants must be eligible for Federal Work-Study. GALLERY OPENING: ROGER ALLAN CLEAVES & CBU ALUMNI SHOW

The Beverly & Sam Ross Gallery announces new exhibitions: "Breaking Ground" by Roger Allan Cleaves (whose work is pictured above) will be on display in the main gallery, and a selection works by of six CBU Alumni — Michelle Fair ('12), Lauren Jeu ('17), Servando Mireles ('18), Desiree Mitchell ('13), Ray Pagni ('16), and Yancy Villa-Calvo ('99, '01, '06) —will be shown in the gallery foyer. A public reception for the artists will be held on Friday, October 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both shows will be on exhibition through October 24. More info… 
SATURDAY GRIZZLIES PRESEASON GAME - RAFFLE
The Office of Recreation will host a raffle contest this week in Alfonso Dining Hall for 30 lucky winners to attend the preseason match between the Memphis Grizzlies vs. the Indiana Pacers, which will be on Saturday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the FedEx Forum. Winners will be contacted on Friday, October 5 starting at 1:00 p.m.

September of Service Finale This Friday!


We've served and served and served and SERVED! Now it's time to CELEBRATE! 
Last week our amazing September of Service volunteers played games with seniors at Ave Maria Home, cleaned and organized at Dorothy Day House,  did outdoor tasks in the Beltline community with Jacob's Ladder, cleaned the Athletics vans (pictured) and helped several other offices during SOS@CBU, painted railings and cleaned up the cobblestones with Memphis River Parks Partnership, and (among other things) managed the Sumo wrestling contests at Japan Fest at Memphis Botanic Garden. Thank you, volunteers; it was a GREAT final week!

Now that SOS 2018 is a wrap it is time to CELEBRATE! Come to the Wilson Family Commons in the LLC at 5:00 p.m. this Friday, October 5 for our annual celebration of the biggest service initiative of the year. We will reveal this year's service statistics (did we set any records?) and have refreshments, fun awards, participation prizes, your "Why I Serve" printed photos, and our always popular SOS finale video. What could be more fun than all that?! If you participated in SOS, look for your picture on finale flyers around campus this week. Remember, for every SOS project in which you participated, you get a chance to win a fun participation prize, so don't miss the SOS Finale!

Lady Buc midfielder/forward Anna Della Rosa (Psychology '20) was named by the Gulf South Conference as its Women's Soccer Player of the Week after she scored four goals in a pair of wins for the week. 
Lady Buc middle blocker Miaya Smith (Unspecified Science '22) earned her second straight Gulf South Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week award after hitting .343 with 20 kills and 10 blocks on the week. 
Dr. Bev Vitali presented "Using Lasallian Principles to Develop Corporate Training Programs" at the 7th Annual International Symposium on Lasallian Research at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota, September 21-23.

Delta Sigma Pi Krispy Kreme Fundraiser

Delta Sigma Pi will be conducting a Krispy Kreme Fundraiser through Friday, October 5. This fundraiser includes glazed ($9) and flavored (chocolate glazed, kreme, raspberry, and lemon-filled $10.50) donuts by the dozen, BOGO dozen of donuts cards (each card includes 10 BOGO deals $20), a dozen glazed-only certificates ($9), and a variety of coffee blends. The BOGO cards and  dozen glazed certificates are great if you do not want to have the donuts on our set delivery date. They never expire! Orders will be available for pickup on Wednesday, October 10 in Alfonso Dining Hall during lunch time. Library Student Advisory Board

To help Plough Library better serve the CBU community, a Student Advisory Board is being created. This student-only, student-run board will work on library-related issues chosen by students. The goal is to provide a communication link between students and library staff, to provide feedback, and to act as a sounding board for proposed changes. Plough Library is seeking student volunteers who are invested in helping the library improve. Interested?

CBU FOOD PANTRY: The CBU Food Pantry is open and available for anyone in our CBU community and provides nonperishable food items, spices, and limited hygiene products. If you or someone you know is in need of food, please fill out the form at cbu.edu/food-pantry, and we will set up a time that works for you to pick up the food. The CBU Food Pantry is located in the Campus Ministry Office in the Thomas Center.
STUDENT MASS: Join us to pray together as a faith community every Sunday night at 9:00 p.m. for our weekly Student Mass held in the Stritch Chapel. If you are interested in joining the choir or playing an instrument please contact Joseph Preston at jpreston@cbu.edu.
PB&J SERVICE WITH CAMPUS MINISTRY: Want to give back to your community? Have around an hour to give? Join Campus Ministry in making peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches for St. Mary's weekly meal kitchen! Meet in Alfonso Dining Hall every Wednesday from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m.
ADORATION AND RECONCILIATION: Eucharistic Adoration will be held every Wednesday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel located in Barry Hall. Fr. Bruce Cinquegrani will also be available for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Please stop by even for a couple of minutes to say a quick prayer moment and a quiet moment in your day.

WOLF RIVER CONSERVANCY'S GREENWAY SOIREE
Help serve with the Wolf River Conservancy’s annual Greenway Soiree at Opera Memphis on November 10! Volunteers needed to help with event setup, welcoming guests, assisting with the auctions and event cleanup — there are multiple shifts volunteers can sign-up for. Sign up on Volunteer Odyssey. MEALS ON WHEELS 

Volunteers are sought for a Meals on Wheels service event in conjunction with MIFA (Memphis Inter-Faith Association), planned for November 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Thanksgiving season offers us no other better time or way to embody the Thanksgiving spirit — as well as the Lasallian spirit — than to serve fellow Memphians by delivering hot meals to their doors. The goal is to acquire 60 committed volunteers to participate in delivering meals to elderly seniors’ homes, with 20 volunteers designated as delivery drivers. Volunteers are the lifeblood of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, providing crucial support services that are vital to the hospital and the well-being of its patients. Every day, willing volunteers donate their time and energy so that St. Jude can fulfill its mission of finding cures and providing care. Filling a wide variety of roles throughout the hospital, the impact of volunteers extends beyond the immediate needs they meet. Whether they are playing games with children, giving parents a much-needed break, or working the Happy Cart like CBU Lasallian Fellow Alison Allensworth ('18), their generosity leaves a lasting impression on all those they serve.

Koinonia Student-Led Retreat


Koinonia, a  Greek word meaning "Community," is a peer-led, peer-planned, and peer-directed retreat that will be a wonderful experience open to all of our students. Join us for a stress free weekend as we discover ourselves, God, and others. The retreat will take place at St. Columba Retreat Center on November 2-4. Spots are filling up quickly! Members of the Xi Eta chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity worked downtown at a water station for the St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer on Saturday, September 22.

The Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta Sorority celebrate after concluding the 1st Annual Kappa Sigma Can Food Drive last week. Donations totaled 171 canned food items, which were donated to Memphis Union Mission.

Tri-Beta recently had its first "coffee and conversation" with Garrett Burton (Natural Science '14, MPAS '17), who works as a PA for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Associates. The Offices of Multicultural Student Services and Recreation, in partnership with the Asian Student Association, traveled to the Memphis Botanic Gardens on Sunday, September 30. Congratulations to the 40 winners of the raffle contest. Attendees learned about authentic Japanese clothing, the origins of several martial arts techniques, and enjoyed live performances.

DIVINE VOICES GOSPEL CHOIR FALL 2018 CONCERT

Divine Voices Gospel Choir will present its Fall Concert on Thursday, October 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the University Theater. Tickets are now available for purchase online at www.cbudivinevoices.org for $3 in advance and $2 with a student ID. Buc Bulletin

MEN'S SOCCER (2-4-2, 1-1-2 GSC): The Bucs jumped out to an early lead against Ouachita Baptist with two first half goals and held that advantage with a 3-0 win Wednesday night. The Bucs nd the Union University Bulldogs were evenly matched throughout the entire game, as both teams scored a single goal in the first half, but both teams failed to score again to end the game in a 1-1 2OT draw Sunday afternoon. The Bucs will be back at Signaigo Field Friday, October 5 at 7:00 p.m. against Mississippi College. Full schedule… 
WOMEN'S SOCCER (5-2-1, 4-1-0 GSC): The Lady Bucs rolled past the Union University Bulldogs 5-0 in the Smith Memorial Soccer Complex on Sunday. The Lady Bucs return to Signiago Field next weekend for two crucial conference games against Mississippi College (Friday at 5:00 p.m.) and Delta State (Sunday at 1:00 p.m.). Full schedule… 
VOLLEYBALL: (8-10, 2-4 GSC): The Lady Bucs posted the second-highest hitting percentage in school history Tuesday night, hitting .436 as they swept LeMoyne-Owen 3-0. Host Lee University hit .324 as they swept the Lady Bucs 3-0 Friday night in Gulf South Conference volleyball action. Their next home match is set for Tuesday, when they host Trevecca Nazarene at 6:00 p.m. Full schedule…
