There is a lot of activity taking place as a result of the CDF 2018 outcomes and the Engaging For Impact 2019 annual ECP event. The ECPs have launched their new websites and I encourage you to have a look at them. To view the ISE ECP website, go to https://rmit.edu.au/ise.
In this issue, there are several invitations to events including the launch of the RMIT Centre for Information Discovery and Data Analytics (CIDDA) and the RMIT, CSIRO's Data61 and Accenture Hackathon. Further details and Registration links are listed to help get you involved.
Other activities that you can engage in, include the Crowdsourcing Research Network (CRN), which is forming to connect researchers using crowdsourcing to support their research. There is also a Call for Lightening Talks from the eResearch team with the aim to get researchers to share their experiences with novel digital ways to research. Finally, there are workshops to show you which pathways to take to achieve real-world impact from your research.
With the academic year almost coming to a close, I hope you can find some time to take advantage of some of these great events happening.
Cheers for now,
Mark Sanderson

Crowdsourcing Research Network
Connecting researchers, industry and the community!
You are invited to join the RMIT Urban Futures' Crowdsourcing Research Network (CRN) - a newly
formed group aimed to connectresearchers, industry partners and community members from different disciplinary backgrounds working or interested in
conducting research on collective intelligence,
civic engagement, citizen science and
crowdsourcing strategies to serve bottom-up
participatory transformation of our cities.
CRN benefits: CRN will develop an online platform to provide members with:
· Access to a collaborative space on UF-CRN online platform
· Access to a repository of best practices on UF-CRN online platform
· News and future directions in the field.
To kick-start this network, a virtual brainstorming
session will soon take place to:
Identify the type and scale of civic engagement, crowdsourcing, co-design, co-production capabilities that exist across the CRN community; and
Determine and map interests among network participants.
If you are interested in joining the CRN and co-designing this network, REGISTER HERE.
eResearch in Action: building
a community digital research practice Submission Date:
Friday 5 October, 2018
The eResearch team will be hosting a session at
Engaging For Impact 2019 to share experiences
about the tools and technologies use in research.
You are invited to present a short, five minute
talk about your experiences with technology to
enable other researchers to discover and
explore innovative approaches to research.
This could include a:
workflow tool;
data management or curation platform;
cloud-based platform;
software library;
document standard;
publishing platform or others
As a presenter, you will receive assistance to
facilitate a community of events and
discussions around your preferred tool or
technique during 2019. To get involved,
please email your details including your
name, School and a description of the tool
or technique you wish to highlight
(up to 100 words) to eResearch by Friday, 5 October 2018.

The Spatial Capability Cluster @RMIT (SCCAR) recently held a Tableau Skills Workshop. This event was attended by people from across the University. They learned how to use Tableau for charts, analytics, dashboards, and maps. As registration was oversubscribed, a second workshop may be held later in the year. If would like to be placed on the waitlist, please send an email to Rebecca Rigbye.
2018-19 SCCAR Workshops
SCCAR is running several workshops in 2018-19. These events include sessions on Developing Impact; Developing Collaboration; HDR Support; Policy Advice and a SCCAR event at the Engaging For Impact 2019.
