Feathers Macmillan coffee morning

A huge, massive, heart felt thank you to all who came and the many others who participated. The whole thing was so much more successful than Joe and I could ever have hoped for. Because of people's generosity we even achieved to surpass our aim of reaching £1000. Our total is now £1412.50 so thank you, thank you, thank you. Our raffle was very popular, many thanks to our suppliers who donated some stonking prizes, we sold 785 tickets which massively helped to our magnificent total. There are too many who deserve a special mention, but Samantha and Kate who always help when we have our evening soirées (a bit of French there) popped in just to support us but ended up working their socks off making dozens of coffees and doing no end of washing up and cleaning.

Unfortunately we were just too busy to get many photographs, here is one of an extremely good looking couple of young blokes, some of the lovely people who supported us, one picture of the many scrummy cakes that were kindly bought in, a shy couple who embarrassingly scoffed more than they intended and lastly aunty Peggy who took "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" to the extreme... (I don't blame her, she does make exceedingly good cakes).

On a very personal front I am so proud of Feathers, Joe and I have created a special place, a one off, it is a pure pleasure to host events like this where customers and friends join together in a magical atmosphere, have lots of fun while supporting a truly worthwhile cause.

What a fine end to September, so nice in fact, I have relocated my 'office' to the table outside. Basking in the glorious sunshine and watching the many birds popping down to the feeders and bird baths, I thought I may find some sort of divine inspiration for my piece of the newsletter. Ultimately, I find myself spending too much time distracted by the birds and wondering where on earth that strange tapping noise is coming from... Then in strolls 'Des' (as we name all the cock pheasants we become fond of) who knows if he wanders round helplessly we'll chuck him a handful or two of sunflower hearts. Now the tapping has stopped and I'll never know what it was. So much for divine inspiration.

Having had mostly the same photos on the back wall of the shop for many years, we decided it was about time for a new look. You'd think choosing 84 new photos would be easy enough, but when you have a selection of over 10,000 pictures to pick from, it becomes tricky to narrow it down. We got there eventually and, after some time-consuming measurements, we now have a smart photo gallery featuring many of the bird species we've seen here, as well as a leopard.
