Good afternoon to you. With the 2018 Festival of Inclusion in full swing there is certainly already lot happening this week. As always, the October version of our SCTN newsletter provides information on upcoming courses and programmes organised by the SCTN, Southside Partnership and its hosted projects. Some of these events were organised as part of the Festival of Inclusion, but many are stand alone. As usual, we also feature some information about courses and events organised by other providers in the county.

News
Supporting Healthy Communities - SafeTALK and ASIST Training

After partnering up with the HSE, Southside Community Training Network has played an important role in facilitating 137 individuals to participate in a number of suicide prevention and alertness workshops (ASIST & SafeTALK) over the last 18 months. We are currently working on organising new sessions in the county and if your group would be interested in running such a training, please feel free to contact us for more information (email: lisa.sieger@sspship.ie).

The HSE also run their own workshops on a regular basis and if you know of someone who could be interested in these trainings in the meantime, please click here for more information on the current HSE training schedule.

Community & Voluntary Organisations Training Needs Survey - There is still Time to Give your Input

If your organisation is a community or voluntary organisation with a social inclusion focus in DLR, then Southside Partnership DLR & Southside Community Training Network are hoping for your input. We would like to know what training and / or professional development opportunities you may be interested in over the next year. The SCTN has a long history of running FREE or low-cost capacity-building courses for community organisations and individuals interested in working in the community. Our autumn programme includes courses on GDPR, grant writing & fundraising, community development, impact measurement and evaluation, communications, and social media awareness in relation to young people. To help us plan future programmes we would be grateful if you could please take a few minutes to complete our Training Needs Survey. Please click here to access the survey.

2018 National Q Mark Award Winner 

We are very proud to announce that Southside Partnership Local Employment Service received a National Q Mark Award for Quality Management Systems.

The Q Mark for Quality Management Systems is a business excellence framework that reviews all aspects of an organisation on an annual basis, and is a testament to the work that Southside LES have undertaken on continuous improvement, to ensure that they are offering the best service possible to their customers.
SCTN Autumn Courses
GDPR Training - Moving on to Implementation - Please note the new Start Time...

Southside Community Training Network in conjunction with DLR PPN will be offering a full-day training on GDPR with special focus on implementation and compliance since the introduction of the new regulations. This full-day training will be running on Oct 16th 2018 from 10am-4.30pm at Blackrock Education Centre. The course will be aimed at community groups in DLR with a social inclusion focus. Spunout.ie Courses in DLR - 

Southside Community Training Network will be running a series of workshops in collaboration with Spunout.ie this autumn:
  • Oct 24th 2018 10am-1pm at Blackrock Education Centre: ‘Social Media’s Impact on Young Peoples’ Mental Health’. Read more here
  • Nov 20th 2018 10am-1pm at Mounttown Community Facility: ‘Online Safety’. Read more here.
  • Nov 27th 2018 10am-1pm at Shanganagh Park House: 'How to Engage With Young People Online'. Read more here
These courses are aimed at professionals and volunteers working in DLR to support young people.

1-Day Child Protection Training - Date has changed!!!

We will be offering a 1-Day Child Protection Training on Nov 7th 2018 at Samuel Beckett Civic Campus. Times will be 9.30am-4pm. The training will be open to anyone working or volunteering with a local community group in DLR which has a social inclusion focus.

To be eligible for a place with the SCTN you need to be working for a local community group / organisation with a social inclusion focus in DLR. If your group is located in DLR, but has a different focus, please contact Laura Howe from the DLR PPN at laura@dlrppn.ie to check if you can book a place through the PPN.

The WEMIN Programme 

WEMIN is a new programme for migrant and refugee women and, in some aspects, also for Irish women. It is run by the Southside Partnership Women’s Programme and is supported by women4women network dlr. It will empower women to play an active role in their community. Find out more here

The Women's Voice Group



The Women's Voice Group is a new group for any women who live in the Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown area.  We would like to give women a space so that they can come together and imagine a better community for themselves, their families and their environment. FREE HACCP Training



Southside Partnership will be offering places on a FREE HACCP training on 25th October 2018 to any candidates resident in DLR who qualify under the current Social Inclusion Community Activation Scheme (SICAP). Next International Women's Breakfast 10th October 2018



The Next International Women’s Breakfast will be held on Wednesday 10th October 10am – 1pm in the County Council Hall, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin. Join the cultural celebration. It would be amazing if you could wear traditional clothes or accessories and also bring a traditional dish or drink. Bring a dish, bring a friend.  
Next upcoming Jobs Clubs

The next upcoming 5-Day Jobs Clubs will be running from 22nd - 26th Oct 2018 at Nutgrove Enterprise Park and from 10th - 14th December 2018 at Loughlinstown Community Rooms. The next Full Jobs Club (3 week option) will be running from 5th Nov until 5th Dec 2018 at Loughlinstown Community Rooms. Living Well with Dementia October Dementia Awareness Month

Living Well With Dementia Event 'Creating a Framework of Hope'

Creating a framework and culture of hope to make a difference to the quality of life of people with dementia will be the theme of this upcoming event. Prof Brian Lawlor of Trinity College Dublin is leading a new campaign, Understand Together, to promote awareness of dementia and to help stop the “loneliness and isolation” for the 55,000 people with the condition in the country, and their carers. Exploring Social Enterprise Funding & Ideas -  Information & Networking Event



Southside Partnership DLR is delighted to announce their unique Exploring Social Enterprise event which is designed to raise awareness and understanding of social enterprise in the county. New Holly House Parent and Toddler Group

1st year Secondary School Homework Group



Southside Partnership at Holly House is running a 1st year Secondary School Homework Group. The group runs during the afternoons from 4.30pm – 5.30pm from September to May 2019. The group is free. Programme of Events for this week's Festival of Inclusion 2018

Festival of Inclusion 2018 is a week of events promoting and celebrating the activities of community groups and volunteers in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown. The festival will be running form the 5th – 13th October 2018. Some of these events have been organised by Southside Partnership and its hosted projects (e.g. the Dementia Awareness Talk this morning at the County Hall). Jobs Expo is returning to Dublin! Jobs Expo Dublin 
 
                                 


Jobs Expo Dublin will be held at Croke Park on Saturday 13th October 2018 (10am-4pm). Jobs Expo Dublin will feature hundreds of active job opportunities at home and abroad and is the only careers exhibition of its type to feature FREE ADMISSION.

Employers will be hiring across tech, retail, sales, healthcare, digital, hospitality, IT, education and more. The event will include a full day of talks, seminars and workshops on the Agenda Stage and free Career Advice in the Career Clinic.

Yoga with Kay - Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser

PRISM DLR - New Support Meeting Schedule -
Providing Support Across the Spectrum


Prism DLR has released their support meeting schedule. Their support groups & coffee mornings are a safe place where parents are given the space to chat, listen, and be heard and supported by others who 'get it'. Knowledge and information sharing amongst families is so important and powerful.
