Important transition plans at Banana Kelly:
We are sending you this special news bulletin about changes underway at Banana Kelly. After serving as President and CEO since 2002, Harry DeRienzo is stepping down as CEO starting October 1, 2018. He will remain as President through the end of the year. Beginning on January 1, 2019 Mr. DeRienzo will tra nsition into a new role as President Emeritus and Special Advisor to the Board of Directors and our new President and CEO.
Having approved a succession plan at its meeting on September 19, 2018, the board of directors of Banana Kelly Community Improvement Association, Inc. unanimously designated Ms. Hope Burgess as Vice President/CEO commencing on October 1, 2018, after which on January 1, 2019 she will transition into the position of President and CEO of the organization.
Mr. DeRienzo is one of the original founders of Banana Kelly and served as its first Executive Director from 1978 through 1982. In 2002 he returned to the organization at the request of the New York State Attorney General when Banana Kelly, and its affiliated housing companies, were on the brink of bankruptcy (indeed, several of its housing companies were in bankruptcy). Ms. Burgess has been with Banana Kelly for about 15 years, starting as a receptionist, and then working with different programs, running our supportive housing/homeless program, and most recently serving as Banana Kelly’s Chief Operating Officer.
NEW BOOK:
The organization is pleased to announce that Mr. DeRienzo has completed a draft of his second book, which w e anticipate will be ready for publication by year’s end. The book is tentatively entitled, Struggles Sustained and the Promise of Progress: The Ongoing Story of Banana Kelly and unlike his first book, outside contributors from both within and without our organization have provided chapters, adding fresh and varying perspectives to our community development.
40th ANNIVERSARY MEET & GREET EVENT:
