NC Voters will find a slate of six constitutional amendments at the end of their 2018 General Election Ballot. Each will include a short caption and voters will be asked to vote ‘FOR’ or ‘AGAINST’ each of the proposed amendments.

If approved, these vague amendments would permanently change the N.C. Constitution, preventing future governors and legislatures from making changes alone. Current legislators would have a “blank check” to fill in the details of these constitutional changes after voters had voted.

Learn about these amendments from Jenn Frye of Democracy North Carolina and Gregory Moss from the Southern Coalition for Social Justice.

- Get your questions about the amendments answered
- Learn how you can engage civically in the Nov 2018 General Election
- Update your voter registration, or apply for an absentee ballot if needed

Panelists:
Jennifer Frye: Training Director, Democracy North Carolina.
Gregory K. Moss, Jr.: Attorney & Project Manager, Southern Coalition for Social Justice.

We need volunteers for this event - please sign up HERE- general assistance and trained voter registration volunteers needed!

Hurricane Relief & Recovery

FOR EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA

We are once again partnering with Manna from Heaven Apostolic Faith Church (Anthony’s Church) and four other congregations to collect non-perishable items to assist our brothers and sisters in Six Eastern North Carolina counties:

Duplin, Onslow, Pender, New Hanover, Bladen and Columbus Counties.

Please drop donations in front lobby box at JRC through October 19, 2018

All contributions to the Judea Reform Tzedakah Box made through December 2018 will be donated to support relief and recovery for our fellow North Carolinians.  If there are specific efforts you’d like to support, we encourage you to make generous contributions directly to those organizations.

Volunteer with JRC at Families Moving Forward Oct 24

Families Moving Forward offers a temporary home in Durham to families with children in the crisis of homelessness.  Working together, FMF creates a path to stability and self-sufficiency through personalized services and ongoing community support. Judea Reform Congregation partners with Immaculate Conception, and Westminster Baptist Church to support Families Moving Forward. We provide meals and childcare one week per quarter. Our next volunteer time is the week of October 22.

On Weds Oct 24, Judea Reform will provide a meal and childcare for about 15 people who sign up to attend specific Adult Enrichment classes. The volunteer support for these events is critical because it allows the adult residents to participate in the Enrichment Programs on topics like Financial Literacy, Health (physical and emotional), Employment and Career advice, Housing assistance, Parenting and Child Development, Education, and Self-Care.

We need meals and childcare volunteers. To sign up to provide meals/childcare on October 24, please register on the Sign-Up Genius link here.  For more information, please contact Tina Prinstein <tina.prinstein@gmail.com>.

Team Judea Reform and CWS-Durham rocked today. Less than 24 hours after posting a signup for everything to furnish an apartment for a family of six arriving from a refugee camp in Africa, every item was “claimed” for donation. Enormous gratitude to our congregants, friends and community for donating new and used furnishings, furniture, food and muscle! Triangle Interfaith Advocates for Refugees and Immigrants- TIARI
Join our Immigrant Justice Team in providing companionship and a meal twice a month to Samuel Oliver Bruno. Samuel has been in protective sanctuary at CityWell United Methodist Church since December. His wife and US-born son visit him most weekends from where they live over an hour away.

He's an all around nice guy, dad of a recent high-school graduate. Upcoming dates for JRC are Oct 4 and 18. Sign up HERE. You won't regret it!

Winter Outerwear Drive

For many refugees,  escaped from war zones, torture or environmental disaster warmth on a cold winter day depends on donated clothes.

Hence, JRC is launching a refugee winter coat and other outerwear drive.  Bring new or gently used coats, hats, scarves, mittens and/or gloves from  October 30 - November 14 to the donation boxes at the JRC temple.

Receipts are available for tax purposes.  Your mitzvah will keep someone in need warm this winter.
