Hispanic/Latina/o Heritage Month and National Suicide Prevention Month
Welcome back students, faculty, staff, y amigxs to the first edition of the monthly Aliento e-updates for this academic year! 
Each month we provide updates, links, community events and resources while highlighting a mental health cause. This issue focuses on National Suicide Prevention Month and celebrating Hispanic/Latino Heritage month. We also offer some self-care tips for students and therapists.
Chisme Academico: Separating Families and the Psychological Impact on Families Affected

From April to July 2018, 2,551 children were separated from their parents upon arrival to the United States and detained in separate facilities. Read to learn how many children have been reunified with their parents and studies that discuss the psychological impact these policies may have on those affected.

Immigrant communities experience rise in suicide numbers.

New Practicum Site: Open Door Center for Integrative Healing
The Aliento Center for Latina/o Communities has partnered with Open Door Center for Integrative Healing and the Sisters of St. Joseph's of Orange Ministry to create a space where Aliento students can train in the community while providing the community with affordable bilingual counseling services.  Visit the links below for more details on the center and how to get involved.  Open Door is a training site that is specifically for students in the Aliento program who are both bilingual and monolingual English speaking.
