Major grant recipients announced
Huge congratulations to the organisations selected to receive funding through our UNESCO Contestable Activity Fund. They are: The Climate Challenge, New Zealand Council for Educational Research in collaboration with Gamefroot, Te Toki Voyaging Trust (waka pictured) and Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Secretary General Vicki Soanes took an active leadership role at the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of 30 National Commissions, held in South Korea in September.

Natural Sciences Commissioner Dr Geoff Hicks (pictured right) and Gerard Quinn, Economic Development Manager, Waitaki District Council, got a lot out of the 8th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks in Trentino, Italy from 11-14 September.
UNESCO ‘Looking Beyond Disaster’ Ambassador Dr Dolapo Fakuade (pictured front right) attended the First Aid for Cultural Heritage in Times of Crisis (FAC) course, held between 5-26 August in the Netherlands. She shares her experiences and observations.
An architecture symposium aiming to bridge the gap in indigenous and western knowledge took place in Samoa in mid September, with support from the National Commission.
Entries are now open for Massey University’s Create1World competition, open to high school students in years 9-13. Entrants need to produce a creative piece that encourages audiences to join together as a global community and solve some of the big problems we face as a planet. The National Commission is proud to support Create1World this year, including an inspirational conference for young people in November.
