Notes from the PTA Co-Presidents

Parent teacher conferences will be this week.  We hope you find this time to be meaningful and productive as you talk to the teachers.  Remember, all of the specials teachers will be present during conferences so feel free to stop by and say hi to them too!  Willard Library Book Fair will be taking place this week during conferences.  Stop by the library to see the great selection of books!  30% of the sales goes toward Willard and other D65 libraries.

Speaking of books, Willard PTA is working with our librarian, Ms. Skoglund, to prepare for the author visit next month.  R. Gregory Christie will be visiting Willard on November 5.  Our PTA has donated money to pay for R. Gregory Christie's books to be in each classroom so students will be familiar with his wonderful work.

A special thank you to Maureen Taylor for organizing the Charleston Gift Wrap Sale!  We will let you know once those orders arrive.  And a special thank to our Book Store Committee (Elizabeth Lyons-Pence, Janine Macris, Becky Reno, Alex Walker, and all fo the parent volunteers) for running a successful first book store for our students last week.  Book store will be held monthly from October through May.

On Thursday, October 18 Whole Foods Market stores in Evanston are donating 5% of their net sales to PTA Council.  Proceeds will be used to support PTA initiatives across the district.  So, get out and shop on Thursday! A few Whole Foods favorites, in my opinion: mini muffins, mozzarella pasta salad, and all of their fruit!  What are your favorites???

Mark your calendars:

  • No School on Friday, October 19
  • Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Friday, October 26 (details below)

Eco Day returns on Wednesday, November 7!

Are your plans set for Willard’s next half day? Join us for Willard’s Eco Day!
Wednesday, November 7th 12:05 to 3:35 p.m.

Kindergarteners through 3rd graders are welcome to join the Willard Green Team’s Eco Day!  We’ll learn how to reduce, reuse, and recycle through interactive games and arts and crafts. We’ll plan on outdoor exploration if the weather allows. Pizza lunch and a snack will be provided. All activities aim to empower children to be environmental stewards in their homes, school, and community.

Sign up here.

Space is limited, so please sign up right away! Cost is $35 per child (includes pizza lunch & snack).

Eco Day will be held in the multi-purpose room and led by Green Team co-chairs Marie Cabiya and Beth Flintoft.

Save your Halloween candy wrappers and bring them to Eco Day!  Let's see how much Halloween waste we can prevent from going to the landfill. Wrappers will be dropped at Subaru Evanston's Terracycle station which accepts all candy and snack wrappers.
