Fall Recap

Some energetic and good spirited volunteers got wet and muddy while picking up garbage from the river via canoes on a beautiful September evening during the On-The-Water Clean up.

Over 2100 4th grade students from 32 schools participated in hands-on-activities to learn about all aspects water during the Red River Water Festival.  They learned about water quality, water properties, water treatment, history of water, wetlands, rivers and more.  Volunteers were once again the key to success with over 100 people volunteering their time from government entities such as Soil and Water Conservation Districts to college students from Concordia and high schools students from Barnesville, to other nonprofits such as the Red River Zoo.  We sincerely appreciate their abilities to teach students how fun it can be to learn and be good stewards of our water resources.  Major sponsors include Xcel Energy, ND Project WET, City of Fargo and the City of Moorhead.

Reforest the Red in Fargo brought almost 700 volunteers out to plant about 7000 trees and shrubs along the banks of the Red River to create a larger riparian area which maintains bank stability, encourages growth of native plants, improves water quality and provides habitat for wildlife. Our partners in this project are the City of Fargo, Fargo Park District and Cass County Soil Conservation District.
