WELCOME TO TERM 4!
Please take note of the following updates and reminders:

WARMER DAYS ARE HERE!

After some much needed rain we are so happy that summer is officially here! With that in mind, please remember to apply sun block daily in the morning before school and send a (preferably wide-brimmed) hat and a pair of flip flops labelled with your child's name, that may be kept at school. Kindly ensure that all hats, shoes and removable clothing items are clearly labelled with your child's name. If your little one attends aftercare, please send a sun spray/sun block (also labelled) that may be kept at school for application during aftercare.

NATIONAL MARINE WEEK ART EXPO:

We're drawing on our arts-powered roots to celebrate National Marine Week this year. In light of the danger that plastic poses to our oceans and marine life, children will be creating artworks using recycled plastics and other reusable goodies. We plan to host a little open-air (weather permitting) expo on Friday, 19 October during home-time. All parents and grandparents are welcome to come and view their little ones' creations. Little ones to kindly wear something blue on the day and Teacher Tashai will be available for some fun face painting.

FURRY FRIENDS CHARITY DRIVE:

This year we would once again like to give our children the opportunity to learn about the joys of giving by participating in a worthy initiative - this time ensuring our furry friends at Fallen Angels Pet Rescue are not forgotten during the festive season.

As a school, we would like to help by collecting and donating some of the items on their wish list.
If your little one is able to participate, kindly ensure that donated items are new and appropriate, and sent to school during the period 1st - 15th November.

The following items are on their wish list:

  • Puppy and Adult dog foods (dry and wet appreciated)
  • Puppy and Adult dog dewormers
  • Tick and Flea Treatments
  • Ectodex Dip (used to treat mange)
  • Disposable gloves
  • Refuse bags
  • Spray bottles
  • F10 Disinfectant
  • Mobility supplements for dogs
  • Dermvet cream
  • F10 wound sprays and creams
  • Wet wipes

ASSESSMENTS & CONCERT NEWS:

Starting from the second week of term, teachers will be assessing learners' progress and various skills, in order to prepare their end-of-year feedback reports for parents. Throughout the entire fourth school quarter, we will be focusing on preparing the little ones for our year-end concert, to maximise this as a purposeful, fun and age-appropriate learning opportunity for them.

We therefore kindly ask parents to ensure that children attend school every day, unless they are ill, in order not to miss assessments and concert rehearsals.

CAPRICCIO! 2018 SHOWSTOPPERS:

We have been hard at work preparing for our annual school concert and we know that it is going to be a smashing success, which we cannot wait to share with you! As our Gr. R learners are celebrating their graduation, we feel it is fair to offer our Gr. R families first preference on tickets - During the period Monday, 22nd October to Wednesday 7th of November, Gr. R parents will be offered the opportunity to purchase a maximum of 6 tickets per Gr. R learner. Thereafter, until Wednesday 14th November, our other Capriccio! families may purchase their tickets. Due to limited space, we unfortunately have to initially place a limit of 3 tickets per family. Should you wish to purchase more than 3 tickets, please include your request with amount of tickets needed, when emailing your confirmation of payment to the office, and should we have tickets left, we will inform you by the ticket sales closing date if we are able to accommodate the request. Kindly note that tickets and seating arrangements will be done on a first come first serve basis. (Capriccio! learners don't need tickets, as they will be participating and remain backstage during the event.)

Cost: R80 per ticket
Date: Wed, 28 November (around noon)
Venue: View Church, Milpark

Kindly email the office at admin@artspreschool.co.za with confirmation of payment (ref: C18surname) within the dates specified above, to place an order for your tickets.

We strive to keep the cost of costumes and props as low as possible; we will however require little ones to bring some items from home. Please keep an eye out for our concert email following in the next few weeks. In the meantime, if there are any mommies or grannies who may be able to assist us with machine sewing (if needed), we would greatly appreciate it if you would please advise the office.

SAFETY & SECURITY:

We would once again like to remind everyone to be vigilant with regard to safety (and also road safety), especially when dropping off and collecting your little one - do not leave your vehicle idling or unlocked, make sure that no valuables are visible, take note of all vehicles parked in front of the school, please ensure the school gate is securely closed behind you and kindly advise the office or me personally should you notice anything suspicious. The continued safety of our learners and families is a top priority for us.

STAFF NEWS:

Savannah will sadly be saying goodbye to us this month as she has been presented with an opportunity that will allow her to further pursue her field of studies.  We wish her all the best on this new adventure! Lee Van Rensburg will be helping out in the office for the remainder of the year.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new teaching assistants, Boudine and Gabi - We are so happy to welcome you to the Capriccio! team.

UPDATED CONTACT INFORMATION:

As we slowly begin to prepare for the new school year, we ask that parents kindly notify us of any changes in contact details or addresses in order for us to update our records accordingly. Please note that any changes to your general arrangement as to who may fetch your child, even if the change is just for a specific day, must please be sent to me personally, via WhatsApp or sms.

2019 EDUCATIONAL SUPPLIES AND SCHOOL FEES:

A friendly reminder that in order to have your little one's educational supplies ready at the start of the new school year, we invoice the annual educational supplies fee (R1,950 towards 2019) at the end of November, kindly payable by 1st December, with your last school fee instalment for the year.

Kindly take note of the following changes to our fee structure for 2019:
  • School fees: R42,000 per annum payable monthly in advance in 12 instalments of R3,500 each (January to December), kindly due on the 1st day of each month.
  • Aftercare:
    • 5-days per week option: R16,800 per annum payable monthly in advance in 12 monthly instalments of R1,400.
    • 3-days per week option: R14,400 per annum payable monthly in advance in 12 monthly instalments of R1,200 each (January to December), kindly due on the 1st day of each month.
SCHOOL LEAVERS:

Kindly note that one school quarter's written notice is required should your little one be leaving the school (not applicable if your little one is going to Grade 1 next year). We therefore need to receive this by no later than the end of this week, should your little one be leaving at the end of this year.

Unless informed otherwise, we assume that little ones stay on with us from one year to another and plan accordingly by reserving their places in class. Most of our classes for next year are almost full now and we would not like to turn children away if we are able to accommodate them.

COMMUNICATION:

To keep our parents informed, we currently use the following main methods of communication:

  • WhatsApp groups - weekly messages applying to all group members are sent out by the teacher and/or school principal. In an effort to be considerate towards our parents, we ask all to kindly refrain from posting social messages on these groups and please only message your little one's teacher privately (not via the groups), e.g. if your child will be absent. Kindly send messages during the school week only; mornings between 7h30 and 8h30 and afternoons between 14h00 and 17h00.

  • Quarterly Newsletter (email) - sent out towards the beginning and end of each school quarter

  • Facebook - photographs and updates are posted at the end of each week.

  • Email: Should you have concerns with regard to your child's development that you have addressed with your child's teacher personally, please contact me via email to arrange an appointment to discuss these with me and your little one's teacher.

Thank you for your enthusiasm, cooperation and support. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions.

Wishing all our families a wonderful fourth quarter!

Kind regards
Elbe Webber (principal) & Team
