89th AGM & Conference Weekend
We are quickly approaching the first weekend of November, which means our Annual General Meeting & Conference Weekend in Perth, Scotland at the Bell's Sports Centre is only a few weeks away!

Over the course of the weekend we have a full programme of events. The Teaching Conference will be held on Friday 2nd November, with a Ceilidh and a Country Dance in the evening. Live music at the Ceilidh will be provided by the John Carmichael Ceilidh Band, with caller John Carswell (from Linlithgow Scotch Hop), and The David Oswald Scottish Dance Band will play for the evening dance.

Then on Saturday we have a general class in the morning with teacher Rachel Shankland and musician Adam Brady, and an Open Forum that will include an update on the business plan, Branch success stories and a meeting on Affiliated Groups. This is all followed by our Annual General Meeting in the afternoon.

Carrying on from previous years we will be live streaming the Annual General Meeting, which begins at 2pm GMT. You can tune in by following this link on Saturday 3rd November. Coverage begins at 1:45pm GMT:

Afterwards is our Formal Ball, where over 400 dancers from around the world come together on the same floor to Dance Scottish with music by the Jim Lindsay Scottish Dance Band.

We finish it all off on Sunday with a general class in the morning with a session on "Historic Dances" from Jimmie Hill and Mo Rutherfor, and a general class with teacher Peter Cass and musician Bill Ewan.

Tickets are still available so please get in touch with the RSCDS office.

Update on the new RSCDS website

The RSCDS has been developing a new website and database over the last year and a half and we are getting to the final stages with a launch by the end of the year. We will keep you updated with the progress of this new website with mailings, social media posts and News items on our current website.

Along with creating a brand new online experience, we are also developing online tutorial videos and helpful walkthroughs to get you accustomed to our new website. A launch date for the new website has not yet been set, but when we are confident the website will meet all our expectations we inform our membership community and start building up towards the launch.

We cannot wait to show you what we have built and look forward to the feedback we will receive.

Get ready for the Holiday Season - shop with the RSCDS

It is never too early to start thinking about ideas for Christmas presents, and the RSCDS has you covered. Book 52 has been out for a couple months and copies are flying off the shelves. This is proving to be a very popular book, so for that dancer in your life, get them caught up with the newest RSCDS publication.

The CD to accompany Book 52 has been recorded by Jim Lindsay and his Scottish Dance Band, and you are in for a treat! Note that the members price for Book 52 is £9.50 and its CD at £12.90.

The staff at the RSCDS office have been busy developing and creating new items for our Gift and Accessories section. We hope you will like them as much as we loved making them.

  • The RSCDS Calendar 2019, the Archive Edition (£9.60)
In collaboration with our resident archivist, we created a 2019 calendar that features well-known figures and dances of the Society; it also highlights RSCDS events.
  • Canvas shopper bags – This year, we reprinted two of our most popular bags, including a new design:  “I love to dance Scottish” is perfect for making a bold statement and expressing your passion!  We’ve included the signature RSCDS tartan in the heart for a touch of Scottishness.  These bags are made up from a heavyweight canvas, making it the ideal book bag.
  • Thistle Tea Towel – Inspired by the original thistle-themed tea towel produced by the RSCDS some time ago, this revamped version sports a more flowing, natural design with a modern dancing couple at the centre.  We love the natural, heathery purple and crisp screen-printed finish!
  • After selling out of our original bone china tartan mugs, this item has been redesigned in a weightier ceramic material. Elegant as ever, this shiny tartan mug is priced at £6.25.
  • Explore the new colours in the t-shirt and polo ranges. Browse our Facebook shop for more photos.
All prices quoted above are before member discount. Sign in to the RSCDS to obtain your members discount!

Virtual Festival submissions are now closed - bring on the judging!

The Virtual Festival is a new competition organised by the Youth Services Committee where we asked Branches & Groups to get dancers together to perform a unique dance based on the theme “Around the World”.

The Virtual Festival has now closed! Thank you to all who submitted videos; we received more than a dozen submissions and will be judging all the entries on 27th October. The winner will be announced during our AGM & Conference Weekend.

Once judging has been completed we will be releasing all the videos on our official YouTube channel for the entire world to enjoy. All of the entries are incredible and we wish that everyone could win, so it will be a tough decision for our esteemed judges.

Please watch this space and our Facebook page for more detials.

Good luck to those who entered and happy dancing!
