Congratulations to our September 2018 grant recipient!
Miriam McQuade, M.D., Obstetrics and Gynecology resident at the University of Rochester Medical Center, was awarded $1000 for the project “Women’s Health Collaboration between Trillium Health Syringe Exchange and Strong OB/GYN Department to Provide Pregnancy Tests and Contraceptive Counseling.”

This project aims to increase access to contraception for the high-risk population of women who use drugs by providing a contraception clinic at the Trillium Needle Exchange. A healthcare provider will be at the Trillium Needle Exchange once a month to answer questions about contraception and to prescribe oral contraceptives for those who desire them and do not have any contraindications.

CLIC Forum

One of the goals of the Clinical & Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program is to encourage team science and tackle system-wide scientific and operational problems in translational science that a single group cannot overcome in isolation. This involves collaboration and teamwork, which the Center for Leading Innovation & Collaboration (CLIC) Forum aims to foster.

The CLIC Forum is a place to ask the consortium questions, discuss best practices, bounce ideas off each other, and share opportunities. Explore the platform, and begin sharing ideas and thoughts today! Contact CLIC with any questions.

Webinar: CD2H People, Expertise, and
Attribution Community Workgroup

Share your thoughts and help shape the future of CTSA Program informatics at the Center for Data to Health's (CD2H) first quarterly meeting for the People, Expertise, and Attribution Community Workgroup. This community meeting will bring people together to identify key pain points and to explore how the CD2H can best collaborate to address challenges.

The two-hour interactive webinar will focus on two key areas:
  • Translational resource discovery: How can we make it easy for CTSA members to identify experts, educational materials, clinical guidelines and more?
  • Expanding attribution mechanisms: How can we set a precedent across the CTSA Program for giving credit where credit is due for the broad set of contributions made in translational science?

Date: Thursday, October 18
Time: 9:00 – 11:00 am

Common Metrics Initiative of the CTSA Program

In an effort to help evaluate and highlight how the Clinical & Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program can directly affect and improve public health outcomes, the Center for Leading Innovation & Collaboration (CLIC) is redefining the Common Metrics Initiative, beginning with the first Common Metrics Initiative Hub report.

General Data Protection Regulations
Q&A for Researchers

The European Union recently implemented new data privacy regulations, called the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), that may affect your research.  Please read the Q&A document, "What You Should Know About GDPR"  to see how this affects you and your studies. If you believe that GDPR may impact your research, please provide the information requested on page five to Research-GDPR@rochester.edu.

In addition, if you receive any requests based on GDPR by funding sponsors or other organizations, please contact either Kathleen Tranelli, privacy officer, or Mark Wright, senior counsel, before responding. Your assistance will enable the University to develop situation-specific guidance and a compliance strategy for the research community.

I-Corps@NCATS Training

Beginning in January 2019, Penn State College of Medicine will host a free, five-week I-Corps@NCATS regional short course to help teams effectively translate and commercialize their healthcare innovations and research. The program is based on the National Science Foundation's Innovation Corps (I-Corps) and was developed through a grant with the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Participants must attend two face-to-face sessions (the kick-off and finale) and will connect with potential customers for a research project, protocol, service or prototype during the three weeks in between, checking in virtually during “office hours.”

Face-to-face sessions will take place at Penn State College of Medicine’s University Conference Center, 30 Conference Center Dr., Hershey, PA 17033. There is no cost for this course. For details, email innovations@psu.edu or call 717-531-8496.

The course is open to all regional academic medical centers affiliated with CTSA Program hubs.
