MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY DEAN FOR ADMINISTRATIVE AFFAIRS

It’s hard to believe that October is nearly gone and soon we will be welcoming a new calendar year. Thank you for your commitment to our college. It’s been a whirlwind of a year with many changes; I hope you all are doing well and are feeling inspired for the year ahead.

We’ve accomplished many things since welcoming Dean Kron in July. One of our most recent and significant achievements was completing our LCME site visit last week. Please join me in thanking all who participated and giving a special shout-out to Dr. Moynahan, Raquel Givens and Andrea Lopez. As many of you know, the past few weeks have been stressful for this team as they took point on our visit from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. I am happy to report that all of that hard work paid off: the LCME’s preliminary findings on our college’s curriculum changes have been positive.

If you haven’t heard, our college has established the first annual Clinical Excellence Awards to recognize outstanding faculty members who are providing exceptional patient care. The awardees will be recognized at our COM-T General Faculty Meeting on Nov. 7. Other activities on the calendar between now and then include the FUN Committee's Halloween Spooktacular at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. Many of us will be participating in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) annual meeting in Austin, Texas from Nov. 1 – 6; we will have a University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine reception there on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. And for our COMadmin family here in Tucson on Nov. 2, keep in mind this is an early release day (12/Noon) due to the 7:30 p.m. football game at the stadium.

Finally, I encourage everyone to get out and vote on or before Nov. 6! Let’s take charge of Arizona’s future.

Best,
Judy

On Nov. 9, Dr. Kron will have served as interim dean of the college for four months.

Prior to joining the UA College of Medicine – Tucson, Dr. Kron served as chairman of the University of Virginia’s Department of Surgery.
