China top traffic-generating source from Northeast Asia into the Pacific in 1Q2018

The Pacific welcomed a record high of 2.1 million international visitor arrivals (IVAs) from Northeast Asia during the first quarter of 2018. With consistent strong traffic growth, China overtook Japan for the first time as the lead source market in the region, occupying more than a one-third share (35.5%) of Northeast Asia traffic. Hong Kong SAR (+29.1%) and Chinese Taipei (+12.6%) dominated most in terms of percentage growth for that period.

PATA Issues & Trends – 1H2018 is now available

Over the last decade, travel distribution has changed dramatically from the traditional wholesale model to the evolution and market dominance of OTAs. Meanwhile, operators continue to seek high yielding direct business within a dynamic and shifting market, and grapple with the entry of Airbnb to the market place and the new challenges it presents. With the ever-increasing number of consumers travelling, a range of alternative travel distribution solutions have emerged for operators to partner with in order to expand their sales mix, top-up occupancy levels, add value, and clear distressed inventory.

In this issue of the Issues & Trends, Bartercard examines the evolving and changing face of tourism distribution solution models and the innovative ways in which savvy operators are using them to drive their business.
