Why We Celebrate
We celebrate Church of the Reconciler because it inspires discipleship and slowly builds the Kingdom of God. A few weeks ago we shared the story of our community member Tony swapping matchbox cars with two young boys, James and William. It was a memorable experience for Tony but it was also a meaningful experience for those two young boys.
Some of you may know that Church of the Reconciler held a fundraiser over the summer that encouraged kids to sell lemonade and treats to their local communities to benefit our ministries. When it ended in August, the youth in our local churches demonstrated they are leading the way in supporting the needs of Birmingham's lower income communities.
After meeting Tony, James and William wanted to do something to help the men and women of our community. And even though our fundraiser was over, they decided to sell lemonade and cookies for seven hours on a Saturday. Seven hours! They brought their earnings to us this past Sunday with huge smiles and joyful hearts. They set an example for all of us.
God gives Church of the Reconciler this incredible power to spark discipleship and build the Kingdom of God. James and William met a man that was significantly different from them. He is black and they are white. They are young and he has lived across many years. But when they entered into this relationship across these great differences they demonstrated what God wants from us. They chose to be a part of Tony's community through service. Perhaps without knowing it, these two young men became the greatest among us by using their discipleship to serve others. Imagine if we all entered into relationships with people that were drastically different than us. James and William reveal the joy we will find.
We would like to invite you to the Celebrate Reconciler Banquet where we will introduce members of our community that are doing great things despite being surrounded by the consequences of poverty. We think they are worth getting to know and we hope you will discover ways to become involved with our ministries. See you on October 18th.
You can buy both individual tickets or a table on our website at www.churchofthereconciler.com or by sending a check to Church of the Reconciler with “banquet” marked in the memo section.
